Re: The post man's been ...

New rings for my Pact. I was getting chainsuck off the granny gear last weekend so was limited to a 36/42t gear for 200km. That included the Corrieyairack - obviously!!

If they are marked as "Resin Pads Only" then yes, change the rotors.

Re: Bivi trousers

I'm actually considering silk pyjama trousers as a bivvy option (I already take silk boxers). Mostly as a bag "liner" as opposed to something for sitting around in. Silk liners are just so much faff when you get up in the middle of the night for a pee.

Re: What you done t' your bike today

I've been having some trouble with gear changes on the road bike. Rear mech didn't want to play properly. New hanger, checked cables, adjusted screws but still not happy with down-changes once up-changes were dialled in. Eventually narrowed it down to a sticky jockey wheel. I salvaged one out of an ...

Re: Accurate pressure on the trail

how accurate are your tyre pressures? Not at all. I reckon every trip involves some sort of compromise so sometimes I could probably do with more pressure and sometimes less. That means that anything in a very broad range will be fine for most of the trip. I'll adjust pressures before departure, us...

Re: Frame bag faffing

I'd use the Wildcat (for Salsa) but move it forwards and strap a spare tube between it and the seat tube. Better access for 2 bottles and the spare tube will visually fill the 'gap' (and uses that bit of space). :-bd This is exactly what I've done with the Revelate bag on my Amazon. https://live.st...

Ronhill Tracksters of course!

Don't discount a pair of silk boxers either. Nice, light, comfy and ideal for under whatever you end up with or on their own if it's warm enough.

Re: 36h wide 27.5 rims?

I have a pair of XTR M970 36H (F&R)hubs I could do with moving on. I was actually planning to build them into a set of wheels, bought rims, and THEN discovered they were 36H and not 32H

An enforced trip to Lewis this week (Mother-in-law is currently hospitalised) but took the Amazon with me for a wee spin. Did 102km in very pleasant, if windy, conditions.

TBH I just buy genuine Shimano/Avid . They work well, last well and I don't go through them frequently enough that any cost difference adds up.

Re: Highland Trail Recce

Unless it's changed since the last time I looked at it the route could go even closer to Laggan. The East Highland Way now has a wee link track from Ardverickie that would hit the road at Feagour.

Re: Todays ride

I guess you could take a MTB on the road 70km but they've been clear that it has to be a MTB (not CX) bike for the MTB 30km. What were you planning to bring? If you're the right height I could lend you a MTB.

Re: What Quilt?

I have a Cumulus 250 (old version). There are definitely a few nights per year it's too warm, even up here in the Scottish Highlands, but not enough that I'd also buy a 150. Can't fault anything about the quilt really, though I've played around with the cordage a bit. Having removed all the cords no...
