Re: What you done t' your bike today
Today's bike tinkering was the first step in weight reduction/minimalist gearing on the road bike... Been running 34-50 with an 11-25 cassette for ages, but never felt quite right (too many front shifts needed) was thinking of switching back to 39-53 with 12-30 or 11-28 cassette. I then spotted a de...

Re: Today's Run
First shorts and vest run of the year today... Blowing a gale, but still warm enough to be without sleeves for all other than a 2 minute shower where the jacket went on. Up on Derwent edge, above laybower reservoir. Long, fairly speedy climb up to back tor (about 6km of nearly all uphill) and then I...

That's the one - I remember him wearing a drag race helmet as the bike/Mx ones weren't up to the impacts from being stupidly high in the air on a BMX vert ramp...

Re: Kids bikes!
I built my now 10, but then 9 years old, daughter a bike around an XS trek 26" frame - you can get nice older complete bikes for very little on eBay, and then some garage raiding added a 1*10 deore groupset and some avid brakes... She seems very happy with it, and I don't expect to loose much m...

Re: Wild Country Zephyros Compact 2 Tent Opinions Please
I've got the smaller zephyros 1 and love it... I was annoyed to miss out on the 2 which was for sale here recently. I tend to use it as my scout leading tent, so for hiking with or just grabbing out of the boot. A 2 would be lovely and spacious for just me, and would give me space for the dog (or on...

Re: Todays ride
Excellent good Samaritan work dave! Today's ride was on the nice ti summer road bike (rim brakes, no guards, skinny slick tyres etc.) Over in Manchester with my wife & son, so ride back home seemed a decent option! Left after the rain had stopped, took the hilly way out south of Stockport, via a...

Re: Today's Run
Did my club Monday night race today (there's an option to run it alone and send a time in before Thursday ends), with a short run either side to/from the car. Straight up the side of kinder scout, long speedy descent and then a speedy traverse back to the finish. Decided there wasn't enough hill, so...

I feel your pain  I am in the same boat, I cleared a few big ticket items last year but need to start again and fully clear it out. I hadnt realised just how much of a hoarder I really am.... I think it was finding the cx cantis, 10 years after getting rid of my last non-disk cross bike...

I've a Fizik Arione on my road bike, and it's longer than average. A lot of that is towards the rear of the saddle though, not sure if that's what you are after?

Silicone lid, originally on a plastic reusable coffee cup, goes on the mug to keep my cooking kit together and also pops off and gets used to hold the hot handle

Clear out - frames, fat bike stuff, free stuff etc.
Having a sizeable clear out in the garage, as I've somehow ended up with far too much bike stuff, and keep buying more! I'll try to attach photos, and will put a Google drive link up asap. More bits to follow as I find them... I'll start with the free stuff: 8 & 9 speed cassettes, possibly shift...

Re: A wee whisky appreciation thread.
I went to the Penderyn distillery briefly on a trip a couple of years ago and bought a miniature for that night's bivi, liked it enough to buy a bottle next time I saw it on offer. Not tried Irish whiskey though, might go for one of the ones recommended here. I do like bourbon too, Maker's Mark and...

I've got some of those (well, a different brand from amazon but very similar looking) and they're great. Wife and kids got me them for Christmas as my feet are always frozen following a frostbite issue and then Strata Florida. I wore them on this morning's short ride in -6, with just some normal rid...

I'm usually a Laphroaig drinker, but have recently been given a bottle of Machrie Moor from Arran which is really lovely. Doesn't have the medicinal notes of Laphroaig, but still peaty and in keeping with the other you have named. Maybe worth trying some nice Irish ones too?

Re: Today's Run
Not been for a decent run in a while, and had a day off with lovely winter weather yesterday.... Parked up to the north of Kinder Scout (blackden brook), ran/scrambled up a frozen gully, avoiding the frozen waterfall as I was alone, to the north edge of the kinder plateau and then across the top so ...
