Re: Carbon or Titanium Handlebars
I've a pair of the Thomson's. They ride no different to the Easton carbons they replaced and weight pretty much exactly double.
I wouldn't change them for anything though, they gorgeous!

Re: Bargain Alert Thread
Not sure it's its been posted before, but J E James still have Continental 29er 2.2" folding Race Kings half price for £15. I would guess they are the fairly basic compound but mine came in at 630/643g so fairly respectable and sidewalls seem sturdy enough. Pumped up tubeless on Arch EX rims wi...

Re: Ultralight weights - sub 25lb?
I think the idea is to try and reduce the weight, but also make it usable. Yes you could have a sub 25lb bike+kit set up, but if you cant use it in everyday conditions its not much use. Indeed. Hence I've specc'ed pegs that still work in soft peaty ground and some warm evening wear. That said, it's...

Re: Bivi bag condensation question.
It's more than likely down to the rain creating a film of water over the exposed sections which prevents moisture escaping. A DWR coating on breathable fabrics helps rain the 'bead' off and prevent this from happening, once any waterproof fabric has wetted out breathability becomes an issue. Persona...

2prs of Black Endura Humvee shorts.
Both a couple of rides old- bought earlier in the year. and in great nick. Neither being sold with liners. They are both large, but even my svelte 32" waist keeps popping the fastener open! Wonderful Endura sizing. Would suit 29-31" better I guess. Black 3/4 £22+ £3 postage Black normal le...

Re: Ultralight weights - sub 25lb?
Ian I was going with your circa 45g then added 15g for the pump. I tried that on my Lezyne pump a while ago, but I couldn't get the knack without them jetting off like johnny rockets! I like that xcracer multitool, but by time I've added in a 2,2.5,3 and 8mm Allen key I'm up at normal multitool weig...

Re: Ultralight weights - sub 25lb?
Yup list far from complete. I've had one Birzman tool and I'm never buying another I'm afraid. Great looks, lovely and light but it was the worst actual 'tool' I've had the misfortune to own. All but 8 of the 11 tools were undersized, mis-shaped or made of Philadelphia cheese. For chain tool I usual...

Re: Bag for a *possible* benighting
Very good sub 400g sleeping bags (1L packsize, circa £2-300) are easy enough to source from the likes of WM, Montbell, PHD, Yeti.....it's keeping it dry that's the issue if your looking at tramping en route. If the weather is looking favourable then sub 200g water resistant bivvy covers again are re...

Re: Ultralight weights - sub 25lb?
Yep Ian did make a Cuben balloon bed, iirc his angst was old knackered balloons. I wonder how well the balloons slid into the Cuben thin tubular pockets. A 250g short inflatable mat seems like it might be the ideal trade off, certainly for trips of more than one night where sleep is a necessity. Is ...

For 60g personally I'd prefer the tiny packsize of a balloon bed over a roll of bubblewrap.

Re: Ultralight weights - sub 25lb?
Depends on heat loss to the ground too I guess. I'd be worried that most nice soft areas will be a swamp if its been binning it down for 2 days.
