Re: A different sort of bikepacking challenge

There's some really helpful suggestions here, thanks. Stu - initially it seemed daunting, but if we don't do it, I know I'm going to regret not trying. Duncan - there's a sentimental attachment to the bike for both of us. He would like to ride it, and I would very much like to see it ridden. Bob / Q...

Re: What you done t' your bike today

They are e*13 ones. I‘ve researched their removal online and they’re easy to knacker the crank even with the tool. I think I’ve figured out how to do it without the proper tool, but I’m only going to get one go at it without destroying the crank...

A different sort of bikepacking challenge

Quick recap - 4 years ago I took my Dad's 1949 Raleigh Sport in a very poor condition, completely renovated it and presented it to him as a gift. (pictures on my Insta feed: before and after ) Recounting the event to a friend recently, he commented "What do you give a 77 year old as a present? ...

Some of the stuff on that list is hilarious. #doyouevenloofahbro Other things I haven't a clue what they are, what they'd be used for or if you can even still buy it :???: I'm surprised that hasn't been more comment made of a "supply of tea" being on the list of luxuries, rather than neces...

Re: What you done t' your bike today

Could really do with changing the bottom bracket bearings on the fat bike, but can’t get the crank off. Special crank puller required, you see. Which is out of stock until mid November. :| So, took bolt out, went for a ride to try and loosen it ...and... it’s stuck as a stuck thing on a day o...

Moist https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2656311 Beyond moist. The Norgies are saying 65 mm of rain for Dolgellau between now and the start, and 31 mm of rain during the event. :| Even by Welsh standards, that’s a lot. But it’s the same for everyone, so just put head down and get on with it :-bd Edit: o...

Re: BB200 route on the way.

would a fat bike make those sections rideable? My experience of bogs and fat bikes in Wales is pretty good - once rode Monks Trod with Mike with the objective of not putting a foot down; we didn’t do too bad. As well as the float, you gain significant traction on everything else that’s likely to be...

Re: BB200 route on the way.

Be fair though, at least he's taking you over the footbridge on the Hengwm, it's the bit between Bugeilyn and there for which water wings should be on the kit list. I first rode it in the drought of 1976 and got through ok, subsequently I've been up to my waist in bog having put my foot in the wron...

Re: What you done t' your bike today

Single speed ratios are a funny thing; fit a lighter gear and it seems just as hard, but you go slower :???:
32:19 was always my choice for Wales, loaded or otherwise- didn’t seem to make any difference.

Re: What you done t' your bike today

Related to the winterising theme, I built up
a dynamo front wheel for the commuter last night. I got Roger Musson’s wheel building guide a while back and followed it to the letter - pleased with the result, but I’ve not ridden on it yet :???:

Re: BB200 route on the way.

Just got a first look at the route. Funny thing, I've never actually ridden the Afon Hengwm "track" - perhaps with good reason  That road decent to Arthog - be careful here - the bottom section is really steep, shaded and very slippery on entry to the main road. Junction is blind on ...

Re: Bb200 Waffle Thread.

What was so bad about 2014? I didn't say it was bad, just tough :-bd Read my blog on the route: https://ianbarrington.com/2014/10/14/bear-bones-200-2014/ (was linked incorrectly in an earlier post). Re-reading it now, it doesn't see so bad - 60 mins carrying bike through dense vegetation? Pffft.......

Re: Bb200 Waffle Thread.

I'm not even thinking about it to be honest. I don't even like seeing cycling gear around right now. Not really in the place to even consider riding again (or not) in the future. Sounds serious, Rich. Being a much less frequent attendee on here, I missed the headlines. Hope all ok / on the way to b...

Re: Can Anyone Identify These Bars?

Triathlon bars tend to be this sort of shape, in a shorter length than you’d find on dedicated TT bikes.
Quick search revealed Deda Superzero TT or Metal Blast to be similar shape/ length. I had some carbon Profile bars like this a while back, but they were longer than the ones in this image appear.
