Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

Got out last night for September’s #bam. It should have happened on Traws Eryri last week but I had a bit of brake trouble and abandoned before Penrhos Isaf bothy. I am away this weekend so had to get out at short notice. I wanted to get a couple of things sorted on my bike for the BB200 next weeken...

Re: Meeting Boners in the wild

A few years ago I was in a cafe car park near Cromford with herself and some friends. I looked across the car park and saw a fella in a WRT tee-shirt so went across and had a chat with him. Can’t recall his username.

Re: New long distance Cycle UK route in Wales - Traws Eryri

I have a friend over from the USA tomorrow. On Wednesday, probably, we are heading to do most of the Trans Cambrian and the Traws Eryri. Bus replacement to Knighton so we will get a train to Newtown and head South to join the route. North of CyB my knowledge is very limited so hoping the route gives...

Great write up. I was close to doing a Badger Divide, lower Pictish Trail spin this month but something else has cropped up. Maybe next year, as Pete said ^there a visit is long overdue.

Re: Lachlan Morton on the great divide

FKT does not have to be set during the mass start, Lael's record was a ITT. Before Mike I recall a couple of record attempts in August by Craig Stapler and JayP. JayP certainly help the record for a while before Mike. Speaking of which JayP is in hospital in Salida with various broken bones after a ...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

As mentioned elsewhere last week I visited PBP and got two bivvies in for my August challenge. I set off from St Malo riding along the coast firstly on the road and then along a track and minor roads Mont St Michel. It was pretty busy so I didn't go across, another time hopefully. I headed SW to Tin...

Re: PBP - anyone planning on entering?

Well done all. I cycled down from St Malo to Tinteniac and cycled route to Fougeres. Hillier than I anticipated. I also got lots of encouragement from the roadside and was very embarrassed as I was just touring. I admitted near the controls but on the road accepted the cheers rather than stopping. O...

Re: Exciting finish to Silk Road Mountain Race

Wondered what had happened to Mark, he and Josh never seemed too far away from each other.
I have ridden a bit of the Colorado Trail from near Breckenridge to Denver and it is much slower going than the Tour Divide. Lovely, but very different.

Ferry booked. I will just be at the roadside for some of the return leg. Roughly from Tuesday lunchtime to Wednesday lunchtime between Tinteniac and Fougeres.

Maybe see someone out there.

Thanks Reg had Pete, it was emotional. I would not have memory of his first jobs of course but the jobs he did in the late 60's and early '70's I do recall. The last PS in particular because I see it so regularly I think of him.

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

July: This weekend it will be 5 years since my father died and the germ of this idea came from a song I heard years ago by Christy Moore and more recently by The Mary Wallopers called 'Building up and tearing England down'. It is a song about men, like my father, coming to England for work post war....

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

Pancakes! I sometimes make a big batch, freeze them and stick them in the toaster. Maybe I should take some with me on a trip and cook them, not the same as making from scratch though. I have done a July bivvy but been a bit busy with a trip to the TCR start and house work. Will catch up sometime, h...

I am having a poor year on the BCQ’s, well done one your ride. I have only got 4 this year on all on one day before getting ill in the evening. But for the illness I would have got 3 more but even so I need to pull my socks up to get to at least 20 this year.

Re: North York Moors 300

I enjoyed the reports, thanks for sharing. I lived in York for nearly a decade and knew the golf balls well travelling to orienteering events or Whitby, I did not know they had been replaced. Won't be taking the grandchildren then. I only did one Boltby Bash but that would have been around 1994 or 1...

Thanks Verena. I didn't recall the names of the riders who did the GBDuro that year and perhaps not enough interest in all the races. Will be interesting to see what she does in the future.

Reg, yes, seen a couple of organisations doing something similar. I hope this wasn't the inspiration, although I do wonder. I worry about it getting out of hand with large numbers who may not respect the countryside, leave no trace etc, leading to banning what we shouldn't be doing anyway. Then I te...

Re: The Tour Divide 2023 thread

I saw that Gail Brown was the first Brit to finish and in a quick time. I had not heard of her before this race. Jerry Sharp who I am following is constantly switching between blue and white dot as he is around the 28 day time, he is 66. He is approaching Cuba just behind the dot so I think he will ...

Thanks Reg and Frog... I don't suppose I really thought the thread would still be going over a decade later, it was started in 2012. I do enjoy reading the reports and genuinely proud that a rather pointless exercise has given a number of people a challenge whether for one year to several. I know so...

Late entry for June. Myself and Reg met at Chesterfield Station on Wednesday and spent 24 hours riding to the east of the Peak. I don't know the area well as I have avoided it because of the hills. I had arrived a few hours early and done a short circuit to grab 11 Veloviewer tiles at the extent of ...

Re: Taunus Bikepacking No.6

Sounds like you made some good decisions out there. I fancy that ride but also know the steep up and downs do not suit me. After the 2009 or 2010 Tour Divide race I read about one rider who was so determined to get from Banff to the US border in two days he was shattered when he got there and retire...

My first attempt at a June bam failed when I became ill at the end of the first day. I paid for camping in Maghull near my daughters in order to see her and family ...

Yes, Koko Claims adds a hour or two at the front so impressive that Ulrich ahead already. Mike was on his third run, I believe, when he set his record so had course experience. Just seen this for anyone interested in the origins. My first memory was an article in a UK cycle mag around 1999/2000 for ...
