Re: How Much !

I can completely understand the frustration of the locals on the likes of the NC500 route as they try to go about their normal daily business. From what I saw Colin, people in the North West were tapping into the NC500 and the increased tourist numbers its bringing into the region Its now very popu...

Re: Veloviewer map - explorer tiles

Using Strava Route Builder with the VV overlay can help to avoid that scenario. I've a couple of squares missed by much less than that!

Re: How Much !

We all view 'value' differently and most of us will have a figure in mind that we'd pay to enter something. I think it can also matter where the money is going. I rode the Etape Caledonia a couple of times. I think the entry fee was around £45. Macmillan Cancer had their name all over the website a...

Re: How Much !

Some of the roads planned for some of these routes is stupid. Well, that's another problem. Lack of imagination means that the same roads are being used time and time again. I can completely understand the frustration of the locals on the likes of the NC500 route as they try to go about their norma...

Re: How Much !

Much like having a fire, it's possible to enjoy"the outdoors" without racing on the public roads. In fact it's usually more enjoyable as you are outdoors for longer.

Re: How Much !

Racing. On the public roads. Are there not laws against that sort of thing? If not then there certainly should be. In fact, I wonder what Police Scotland might have to say about a couple of them.... When you do the snitching make sure you let them know about all the scummers racing the Highland Tra...

Re: Quilts: toebox or not?

FWIW I have the Cumulus 250. I reckoned that to be the best balance for the local climate 8-9 months of the year.

Re: Quilts: toebox or not?

I looked at both options this year and bought one with a proper foot box. I get that the flat type are, in theory, more flexible but just wanted that extra bit of warmth/comfort that a formed foot box seemed to offer. FWIW the quilt has been great. I was very sceptical but used it right until last w...

Re: Veloviewer map - explorer tiles

I have a couple of military areas on my patch. One is a beach by a firing range. I reckon I just need to contact the Range Officer to find out when it's safe. The other is on an active airfield. A pleading email might be in order, though I think a mate might be about to transfer there....

Re: Sensible train news

Not on the trains from the Central belt to Inverness though. Seems like a me a strange omission. How are friends folk supposed to get to Inverness with their bikes - and why not have skiers using the train to Aviemore?

Re: Veloviewer map - explorer tiles

Well, that potentially solves a problem for a few of mine too. If I start the GPS, wheel the bike to the van, then drive up the A9 I can get a few squares without riding on the dual carriageway sections

Re: Highland Trail 2019

It’s NOW just over 5 weeks until I will start taking requests for places on the 2017 group start. Still not too late to get a qualifying ride in! These include Lakeland 200, Cairngorms Loop and Yorkshire Dales 300. All should have been completed inside the time limits. I’ll also accept the northern...

Cheery Friday before Depressing Saturday. It's my 60th tomorrow and I'm taking it hard. Distraction requires that I escape to Barra for the weekend. At least that way my Mrs can't spring a surprise party on me. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4876/45967492142_c43ee41c7d_c.jpg DSC_0004 by Colin Cadden...

Bivvy-a-month #11 (feck You Sixty edition) in the (bivvy) bag. Meet and greet at the OBI (with a lovely bottle of Spey Whisky from my awe-some friends), scran at Loch Insh Boathouse then an overnighter in Glen Feshie. Clear, clear night with starts aplenty, a meteor shower and ride back to Loch Insh...

Thanks 'Routes. Flickr doesn't appear as a Gallery share option, and I accessed Flickr in a Chrome tab rather than via any app - so I'll try the app I think... EDIT: bit of a palaver with all those options etc but it works - so long as one also installs Flickr2BBCODE - thanks. Ah yes - Flickr2BBCOD...
