Re: Trousers for wearing post cycling on bikepacking
There's a difference between clothing for sleeping/bivvying and clothes for doing somewhere public I usually carry a LS baselayer and leggings for sleeping in, just to get out of wet kit and ensure I'm warm. Wouldn't wear those in public, if I'm going somewhere I'll just wear whatever I'm wearing. N...

Other option is, rather than rolling, just tuck down inside the back of your jacket

Couldn't you just buy an old bike?
Unless this is some sort of restomod style new version of an old bike...?

Re: SPOT or InReach?
I noticed in T3 mag earlier today that the Garmin GPSMAP66 can come with InReach built in, not sure whether that is helpful or not. One less device, one less thing to charge/use/lose, but less redundancy...? Thankfully my crashes have only been with other people. That break above could've been to lo...

Re: Anyone gone back to sus forks (from rigid)
I turned my hardtail into a rigid bike with plans to swap between rigid and sus, but liked it rigid so kept it like that. Sold the sus forks But since moving to somewhere where there is better riding I bought a full sus. I ride all the same stuff, but some bits just suit the susser better. It's eith...

Re: Fancy some Bar Mitts / Pogies things?
When it's wet, like really really wet, the water does end up in there but it's warm so doesn't really matter. It's just damp rather than sodden. I have the basic hot pogs so they aren't waterproof. The main problem is forgetting to remove them when in the pub/cafe. If you leave them on the bike and ...

I've been using the neoair battery pump for years. It's lighter, smaller packing and easier than both the pump sacks I have so it's a no brainer

I think this version of the NeoAir is being discontinued so you might expect to see a few more cheap ones over time. The new one is the NXT but it's only incremental improvement

Re: Bivvy a month 2022
I got back from my final BAM of the year this morning Left it a little late but was either busy or shocking weather In the end the ride over was pretty nice and the evening was cold and clear. The forecast said rain from about 9-10am so I'd planned to be up and home before then. In the end it rained...

Re: Too much stuff
Defo have a lot of stuff. Outdoorsy kit, bushcraft kit, biking kit, motorbikes, cars, workshop stuff. Building a car at the moment so have all the bits dotted around my office and garage Have the space though, mostly, so it's pretty well organised. I sell or give away the bits I really don't use, bu...

Re: Insulated bottle recommendations
There are two different types - insulated cup or a flask
The former you drink directly from - e.g. a Contigo Autoseal (have used them for years, very good)
The latter you pour into another drinking vessel, like the lid - e.g. Thermos Ultimate or my personal favourite, a Zojirushi

You can get soft little patches that go under the strap on kids helmets to stop trapping skin when you close the side release buckle. They might work?

Re: Layering for cold weather riding
I carry gilets on nearly all my rides, they work really well and pack down small. Normal windproof in normal conditions and then an insulated one when it's cooler. Really liking my OMM Rotor vest. It's the lightest insulated gilet I own, and easily as warm as some of the heavier ones I have I was to...

I got some wool felt inners to add a bit of warmth to my boots when I was in Lapland for a week. Wife and kids were in proper Sorels. I was in a pair of Scarpa SLs with the inner and was fine. Including for a good few hours standing still waiting for the northern lights
They were pretty cheap too

Re: Rigid MTB tyre size..?
I was running a 2.4" on the front of mine, usually a Maxxis HR2 or Ardent. Although I had 2.1" Nanos and they were great But about a year ago I went for a plus wheel/tyre up front. I'd had it for a while and not got around to fitting it. It's a straight swap between both wheels but since p...

Re: Bivvy a month 2022
I bagged my November bivvy on Friday night Combination of work and other stuff on means I haven't ridden much for the last few weeks. I'd planned to do a club ride and then bivvy out afterwards but I didn't have time to sort myself out to leave at the right time so changed plans. Stayed home to watc...
