Re: SE (Chilterns) Winter Bivy - 10/11 Dec

I can see my choice of stove being sniggered at, along with the rest of my kit.

It'll be just like going away with my friends!

Same here, pretty much have this in the calendar but need to make sure the year comes together before hitting the go button.

Re: SE (Chilterns) Winter Bivy - 10/11 Dec

I am coming in a van from Kent... parking wise i'll do a bit of research and arrive early enough to ride a couple of miles if need be. Still yet to put up the tarp.... best go practice or i'll look like the complete nob I am!! Oh, and I haven't manage to get the bar bag on in a way i'm happy with......

Does Sam have a favourite tipple.

I for one would be more than happy to put into the pot to present him with a little 'thank you'.

We can help him drink it then :-D

Re: SE (Chilterns) Winter Bivy - 10/11 Dec

I will be driving from Maidstone, I have a van so plenty of space if anyone from this general direction is attending and would find a lift helpful. I can go north or south around the M25 though I'd rather avoid the Dartford Crossing. Sounds like good living this trip: cafes, pubs and a roundhouse......

Re: Black Friday sales

I found that the top strip got damp due to my breathe and my feet overhung the mat a couple of times so the bottom of the bag got a touch damp. So overall i'd say yes. When you think what the things cost I kinda reckon just get it the best it can be, I expect to be using this for many years so just ...

Re: 2017 plans

My goals vary a little to most here. Though it is all just riding my bike. I am hitting 50 in 2017 so will be a young Grand Vet, so I figured I'd have a go at a complete race series of the Enduro kind. If I can avoid injury etc I am hoping to get on the podium but that would be the icing on the cake...

Re: Musings on a Spanish Coast to Coast

Vague is just fine. I am very happy to bivi as cost would be a factor for me. This has actually thrown me into a bit of a spin regarding my plans for next year, it looks like a great trip! Fitness/stamina wise I am confident I would be fine and there is plenty of time to train. Really got to think a...

Re: Musings on a Spanish Coast to Coast

This sounds very interesting.

Sorry but a bit of a novice at the whole long distance type thing, so a few questions if I may.

Do you bivi or use accommodation?

Is it every man for himself or do you stay together?

Actually, that is about it.

Re: SE (Chilterns) Winter Bivy - 10/11 Dec

So are you telling me that my Thunder Burts won't be appropriate?

I was thinking about some 'muds' the other day for this bike.

Is this little adventure going to be mainly off road aka on mud or a general split.

Had my first night out using my Enlighten Revelate quilt 950 fill -1 rating in wide, all be it on the decking in the garden this week. It was used with a Decathalon mat and a bivi bag. It was a fairly chilly 3 degrees, a slight breeze and some dew come morning. I loved the roomy feel to the set up a...

Re: Bothys ..how much are they used?

So it has been 20 odd years since I used bothies, didn't see many people and when I did there was a respect shown for other users. If I turn up in a bothy now and a bunch of people rock up and show no regard for me being there is it okay for me to ask them to consider myself and other users or is it...

Lovely Lakes weekend

I had a couple of days in the Lakes. No bivving but I did sleep in the back of the van with the doors open... got to use my new stove thingy which was good. Went up Skiddaw on Saturday with Ullock Pike descent as the main aim of the day, it is a stunner. Then a loop from Staverley up to Nan Bield Pa...

Re: Tarpologists - what do I need?

Great thread, I am in the process of buying all the 'extra' bits, guys, pegs poles etc. I have a couple of questions. What do you bang your pegs in with? Seems like it would be somewhat counter productive to carry a mallet!! I am guessing you just push them in or get good at using your foot. Secondl...

Re: GPX routes - how to use help needed.

Thanks for the tips on sites, I can see many hours of my life being spent on there trying to get it right....

Yes, it is my main phone... I do have a battery pack so battery life shouldn't be an issue if that is the concern.

I can always carry another phone if on a longer trip.

GPX routes - how to use help needed.

Hi So I have been riding for donkeys years but never have I followed a GPX route in my life. With the coming together of my bikepacking kit it dawned on me that it would be very helpful if I got a grasp on the whole following a route thing! I have a Samsung Galaxy 6 and I picked up a phone holder th...

Cheers all. Sounds like the hours of reading up I did have paid off then, good to know it is a tried and tested product. I am a reasonably warm sleeper so hopefully I have gauged it about right, I just want it to arrive now, ordered on the 28th Sept so a waiting game. Fingers crossed it arrives in t...

Have I gone too hot?? Sleeping bag question

Hi all A brief history.... keen mountain biker and an ex hiker/backpacker/wild camper, that having been decades ago! Can't walk down hill now due to dodgy knees. I bought a bunch of bike packing stuff off a fella over on Singletrackworld, bar bag, saddle bag, frame bag, mat and tent. I have since go...

Hi all New here and new to bike packing. I have cobbled together a fair bit of kit but I am waiting for my sleeping quilt (who knew.... things have changed, i'll start a thread on it over in Banter in a bit as I may have made a blunder.) to arrive and i'm good to go. I would love to join you on this...
