Re: Highland Trail 550 - 2018

I’m staying in Morvich for a few days so joined Rich and Tom for a couple of miles earlier this evening. Going nice and steady, only real challenge are the midges which are really bad now. Wind has died again so not surprised they’ve stopped at Camban. Amazing people!

Doesn’t look like Alex rested at all overnight!! It’s so hot up here that maybe he’ll stop fur a couple of hours during the day. Surely he can’t ride nonstop to the end?

Is that an example of having the last laugh! Glad you can make light of it - but sounds really scary and that it could have been a lot worse. A crap way to exit the HT.

... and of course the hills are open every day of the year, but these are people who know about the event, know when the group start is, know they’re not part of it and yet have paid their money to put their dot on Trackeaders.... it is just disrespectful to the event.

Re: Highland Trail 550 - 2018

I thought that starting an ITT the day before the group start was pretty insensitive. It looks like someone has started 4 hours before the Group start and added their dot to Trackleaders, which is just taking the p*ss. Anyway, best of luck to all the group start riders and the dot-watchers trying to...

Can pretty much echo everything said above. Very similar experience to Jurassic. And like others, the Stealth I have is brilliant. Probably the stand out bit of kit when I did the HT.

Re: 2018 Borders 350/Borders 220 group start, register now.

Hi Mike - lightweight TrekkerTent for me - I hate midges of any description with a passion and being able to escape from them could be the difference for me between completing or not (I figure there are enough other reasons why it's so hard to complete this route.....). I only live about an hour's d...

Was out last weekend for a play which included the 30 odd miles where the Borders 350 route follows the Borders Abbeys Way long distance footpath. A perfect day for being out in the hills and everywhere very firm under wheel. Long may it last. Starting to get excited  https://farm1.staticflick...

Re: contact lenses?

Really interesting thread. I too wore contact lenses from back in the day and was told daily lens couldn’t be made for my prescription. So I’m embarrassed to say I broke all the rules on length of wear and hygiene until an optician refused to take me on as a patient because of the health of my eyes....

Re: HT550 - 2017

Hard luck Howard. Take it from me, I wrote the book on pre-Fisherfield scratches! Twice I have scratched right there. I was not a happy chap both times. But it is the right decision, carrying a debilitating injury into Fisherfield is not a good idea. Thanks. "not a happy chap" is an under...

Although I'm still showing as active on Trackleaders, it'a pretty obvious I took the (very difficult) decision to scratch. I started with a rib that was only just healed but despite that I went well for the first 200 miles. Like lots of people, I was 7 hours up on my previous time by OBH. But then m...

You're assuming that rejoining the route in Kinlochewe is sufficient? I was, but now I'm thinking otherwise  I "think" that the alternative route was pre 2016 - before the Postman's Path was introduced, when you would have rejoined at Poolewe. I "think" that now any road al...

Martin and I made it to Aviemore for about 1:15am, got burgers from the late night butcher and then four hours of rest at the picnic area behind the Tree Zone place. We got into Pitlochry at 9:30pm, so 35:30 which I was very happy with. How did you manage dry feet? Of the two Americans, Louis pulle...

Re: SPD shoes for extended hike a bike? Lakeland 200 content

I wear Shimano xm9 boots, they're great for hike a bike with the vibram sole unit and once I broke them in they are really comfy. They're gore-Tex though so once the waters in it stays in What Blair said. But I also wear merino compression knee length socks under sealskin mid length socks with the ...

Re: Cairngorms loop in April group.

Well done on finishing Howard. A tough year for it with the inner loop snow and wet, and that horrific headwind hindering progress. Did you stop for any more pints after Glenmore? I was on the Jones, struggling with a flat (supposedly tubeless) tyre. Yep - Tomintoul and Braemar :-bd I didn't realis...
