Re: sp-pd8 dynamo hub question?

No need for an inline switch, unless your headlight doesn't have one and you want to to turn it off. (I've seen gushing reviews of that K-lite stuff and wondering why all the fuss about it having a toggle switch, then realised he uses a light without one). I use a B&M headlight, with a USB charg...

Re: The 1st Torino-Nice Rally, anyone?

Long distance trains and TGV charge 10 € for a non-dismounted bike, when space is available.
Just to avoid any miscomprehension by anyone reading, not all TGV lines carry non-dismantled bikes. The TGV from NIce up to Paris is an example of one that doesn't

Re: Anyone done the French Divide

Interesting! Admit I just saw 'sold out' on the site and took it at face value. I could email and ask, but I made that mistake with Tour Aotearoa when it said 'full' so now I have to do that next February :) Very tempting though. Does look good from the site. Not sure if I'd be able to complete the ...

No, but I'm jealous. I was too late for this year but it's on the wish list for 2018.

Re: Pass through charging. Grrrrr.......

I don't know if it's relevant but I tried using another brand power pack with pass through as if it were a cache battery and had the same result. What it seemed to be doing when connected between my e-werk and my Garmin was just passing through the output from the e-werk, so when I slowed too much t...

Re: The 1st Torino-Nice Rally, anyone?

I took the train from Nice to Paris last year. The TGV was out but the Intercity Night Train takes up to 6 fully assembled bikes, with riders sharing the adjoining 6-berth couchette. Be warned it's a long, slow journey though..

SOLD - 46cm Salsa Cowchipper 2 flared drop bars.

Wide, flared drop bars are the way to go for road adventure and gravel bikes, according to the internet. So I got these and put them on but I didn't really feel at home with the width. But then I'm a roadie who's probably too used to his 40cm straight-drop bars. I used them for a weekend trip only, ...

Re: The 1st Torino-Nice Rally, anyone?

Just to add to my previous comment about Gorbio being one climb too many for me. Having read others' comments I'm thinking now that it would be best to keep the route to La Turbie as is, but to maybe have an optional shortcut gpx from Sospel akin to those from Sampeyre and Tende, so that those runni...

Re: The 1st Torino-Nice Rally, anyone?

What all this rambling is leading up to is that I think there is plenty of scope for a similar event to Torino-Nice in Spain and given my 10 years of organising Trailquest events in mid Wales, admittedly 10 years ago, I'd be willing to put together something next year. Clearly access to transport l...

Re: The 1st Torino-Nice Rally, anyone?

- Make Colle du Priet or Chialvetta-to-carry sections into Little Peru / Gardetta an either-or option or make Priet the main route? Also be more realistic about time and effort needed for the Chialvetta route and the Col des Peas carry. It was 45 mins or less of actual carrying at the top section o...

Re: The 1st Torino-Nice Rally, anyone?

As a curve ball i'd suggest thinking about a completely different route or even two completely different cities to travel between. Milan to Geneva anyone? Great route, but unsure what my appetite would be to ride the same again. Kinda takes away some of the surprises and adventure. On the other han...

Re: The 1st Torino-Nice Rally, anyone?

Back on Saturday, having planned 11 days to ride the full course - less the Molini Pool extension - at a relaxed, social pace. Arrived in Nice a day sooner than scheduled, so should have done Molini after all! (I say full course, but I took Izoard and Preit over the HAB options though. I'm no hero!)...

Re: The 1st Torino-Nice Rally, anyone?

For me it looks like this; Frame bag - spares (lube, link, cable ties, hanger, tape). Drugs and stuff like tooth brush, vitamin I, etc. Pole, pegs and lines. Battery pack, front light, spare AA's, cables and such. Harness - 350 quilt which after looking at the forecast will probably be swapped for ...

It was a pig setting up my 11-42 sunrace 10 speed. Took hours until I found the sweet spot But then I do run SRAM.... SRAM here too (X7 mech). Maybe that's why I've been unable to get the indexing perfect. But twiddling the barrel adjuster gives me something to do on dull road sections :)
