Re: The post man's been ...

Pair of PlanetX fork bags and cages for the Silk Road. Was going to get a pair of BBB Stackpacks but seemed quite difficult to find in the UK and these were a little cheaper, with an extra 10% off this weekend. Quite impressed to be honest, cages hold the bags (I went for the 4L ones) securely, thou...

Re: Best 29er bikepacking tyres?

I've been pleased with the XR2 rear /XR3 front combo on my bike so far since fitting them in July. Not big miles, but cush aplenty and decent grip/rolling resistance. Really easy to set up tubeless too... Still looking at going bigger at the front given my 2.4 XR3 seems so undersized compared with ...

and brought me, 1 x beerbabe custom jones bar bag, beerbabe stuff is brilliant. Ton, how do you rate the bag? I was trying to get a Jones bag for my Geoff bars, but Bothy Bikes weren't holding out much hope of getting restocked, so was looking at alternatives. Was considering an Alpkit Dropbear, so...

they look nice. I raided the IT dept. for double sided velcro cable tidies last time I was in the office unless these straps double back on them selfs, I find I can't get tight enought. - what ever the velcro or reinforcement rubber /hypalon /pvc/ tpu or webbing I find that's where these Alpkit one...

Decent bike mount and luggage/daisy chain mount, plu...

Re: New PX Ti rigid

I've got the same fork on my Silk Road. Looks to be same as the fork they put on their carbon Whippet but with triple bosses. Ive found that the face of the fork that the bosses are mounted on is angled "inwards" which potentially means bigger cages might foul the spokes, or the post-mount...

Also 2 x bottle shift mounts to hopefully allow me to use the bosses on the seatstays - though just realised I...

Re: New Bike Day (with Geoff bars content...)

First ride out last night and really impressed, found the bars comfortable, as was the riding position for the most part, though still occasionally found myself wanting to naturally move back a few cm on saddle, but it's already back to max rearward position marking on the rails. ...love the monster...

Re: Cadence sensor on GX dub chainset - where do you mount yours?

I wear my Wahoo one on my shoe, as there's not enough room next to my cranks either. That's a good idea! I was considering whether I could attach it to the inside of the chainring, but as only 32t there ain't much room there either. Other thought was, there are some large indents on the inside of t...

Cadence sensor on GX dub chainset - where do you mount yours?

First ride out on the new bike tonight, and thought I'd throw on a Garmin cadence sensor before I left. There isn't room to clear the non-drive side chainstay (bike is running 29x2.35). There's just about enough room on the drive side crank, close to the chainring but that doesn't seem a sensible pl...

Re: Geoff Bars vs Jones H

I have the Alpkit Drop Bear bag which I got for my Confucius bars but have now put Geoff bars on and the bag still fits fine, in fact there is a bit more space now. Bump as I'm interested in the same thing. I'm guessing the DropBear means you can't really run lights or computer on the main bar, giv...

waiting on the planet X pricing roulette The rollercoaster pricing policy seems to have reduced since the stepping back of Dave Loughran, they don't seem to have the same end of quarter dash for turnover these days. Re: New Bike Day (with Geoff bars content...)

Nice. That looks like a real crossing-countries bike. Currently fighting the feeling it's a little too short - stick with it a while maybe? Just for the sake of experimentation in a new bike. I've found a short bike can get better the longer I ride it vs a long bike getting less comfy after a while...

Re: Best 29er bikepacking tyres?

Fitted the 2.35 XR2 back, 2.4 XR3 front. Rear tyre comes out wider than the front, though both on same rims. With the "cathedral arch" fork there is a LOT of clearance so may get something wider, given the consensus seems to be go wider at the front if possible... https://i.postimg.cc/kXzJ...

All Terrain Cycles is one of my LBS, I used to work about 200m from them. One time when I was in there getting some tyres they commented that if the Bonty's had "Maxxis" written on them they'd sell out in minutes. Email from ATC saying tyres on their way. Relieved as they were showing as ...

Re: Simplifying the garage. What shall I keep?

I'm in a similar boat in having to sell bikes to thin out the "collection" and make some room but find it really difficult to do, Also a seemingly repeating theme with some of the bikes overlapping in use case, example; Singlespeed (takes 38mm tyres and mudguards but v-brakes)...intention ...

Thanks for the advice. Ordered an XR3 2.4 for the front and a XR2 2.35 for the back. £35.99 each from All Terrain Cycles, so not as bargainous as some of your previous finds, but looked to be stock unlike the larger Mezcals... Re: Best 29er bikepacking tyres?

The silk road is a very nice looking bike. Enjoy it. Thanks, but it's got to get here first (pessimistic, moi?). Also putting Geoff bars on it, to try and get close to the Beyond Adv feel. I think I'd ruled out 2.25 in tyres as wanted bigger (given I was originally going for 29+), but think 2.6 fro...
