Re: Ventile - Alpkit Jump the Wagon

They've been available from Alpkit from a while now Didn't know Fjallraven did a ventile jacket. G1000, epic cotton or some other naturalish fibre but not ventile. They do have a very expensive smock available I like ventile but don't use it for cycling. As a former bushcrafter I have a double venti...

Re: It's a slippery slope.

When my thermarest neoair pump dies i'll probably get one of these. The neoair pump is actually lighter, incl batteries, that the inflating sack I used to use for it. Plus it's totally faff free, although I usually put a couple of extra breaths in to get it up to pressure

Re: What powerbank

My bikepacking powerbank is an Exposure Sixpack. Bought it so I don't need to take a separate powerbank. If it was a longer trip or I think I'm going to use the light a lot, then I'd bring something else. Usually a Nitecore F1 running a single 18650 cell, I then bring as many separate 18650s as I th...

Went out for a night ride earlier. Four riders, bar and helmet lights all exposure.

I’ve had a few lights now and still have a few different ones, but the exposure ones really are good. Excellent mounts too

Re: Car Roof box - takes push bike?

You're going to need to take the wheels off to get it in the roof box. If you're going to do that, you can probably just put the bike into the boot of the car if it's empty

The cheap ones from China all fit a smartphone? Not elegant but very functional

Edit - here's an example. First one I found on amazon. Don't have one but a mate has one like it, seems fine https://amzn.eu/d/i5Pwjb6

Re: Bivvy a month 2022

Got back from my September BAM about 8am this morning Met a mate for a chat and a little pootle last night. Then headed off into the woods for a bivi after that. Stayed in my local trail centre, in a wooden hut/shelter in a children's play area. Like a smaller, less good and more leaky/open version ...

Re: Favourite 'Events'

The only problem with the WRT is that JennRide is often quite close to it. If they were in different months then I'd be able to attend both, but it takes 3-4 nights away from home for each event so I usually just pick one each year.

WE is good too, like a short WRT

Re: Packable v Heavyweight Waterproofs

MT500 is about as packable as all 3 layer waterproofs. OK if you have the space, but not tiny if you don't I'm still using my Outdry for bikepacking as it's sufficiently waterproof to be reliable, and the pitzips means it's not TOO much of a sweatfest I have a few waterproofs that get used for vario...

I now have so many jerseys that I'm trying not to acquire anymore. But t shirts are easier to justify as I wear them everyday, so I'd be in for one (design dependent)

Re: Sit Mat

I’ve used a multimat folding sit mat for many years now. Always bring one on a trip, whether it’s bikepacking or on foot. Used for sitting and also for getting changed or standing on when I’m getting into my bivvy. Weighs very little and is amazingly useful. I have a range of different types but my ...

Spent a little while redoing my toolkit recently. Combined with a set of wolf tooth pack p...

Re: Bivvy a month 2022

I bagged my August bivvy on Sunday night. Same spot as last time (in a local bird reserve by the sea) but all the birds must have flown back to Africa because there were none there. Woke up to see a walker on the main path but don’t think anyone saw me. There were a load of campervans parked up for ...

Re: What does / would your 'ultimate' shelter look like?

The one I'd really like to try next is the Aeon Li. It ticks a lot of my boxes. My main problem is that I'm tall so can't find in many shelters comfortably without risk of touching the sides If they could make the Scarp 1 pack smaller and lighter that would probably be ideal. It's about 500g heavier...

Re: “Utility” pannier racks and bags

Front rack very useful as you'll struggle for space on a shopping trip. The extra capacity will help with bulky things Ortlieb is the general recommendation. Consider some form of basket too. I used to use the Topeak folding milk crate coupled with panniers. Have since got a proper cargo bike and sh...
