Re: Absolute Black Rings

Well after demoing the Camino with round 40-11/42 by riding the YD200, i’m Going to get one once I have the Camino. I’m go8 g for the rival 1 version that has the direct mount rings as you mention. I’m thinking 36 or 38 coupled with the 10/42 cassette should make things a bit easier for yd type rides.

Good to put faces to some of your names. Again thanks to Stu for organising it, great fun, even on an overgeared Demo bike!

Re: Absolute Black Rings

Thanks for the tip on works, sadly they don't do a 36 or 38 for a sram rival1. Glad to hear the ab ones wear well. I currently have only one bike without wonky rings. Divide bike as I don't like how they shift on a 2x system. AB ones wear very well, the one on my SS has done about 2,000km and is sti...

Absolute Black Rings

Anybody here use Absolute Black oval rings? Are they actually noticeably different or is it all marketing hype?

I'm think about a 36 one of these if the Camino happens.

Re: CX Gear Ratios

No the demo will be SRAM Apex1 1x11 and if I get it I'll have the Rival1 1x11. the 40x11-42 will be fine for 99% of the time, I've just seen absolute black do a 36 oval for the rival as it is direct mount. Long term that would be the perfect solution for trips to mountain and itt's/bikepacking I thi...

Re: Dynamo hub for 15mm thru-axel and 9mm QR

Both my SP's have been fine but my son puts out a lot more power at lower speed's. I'm about to try an Alpkit one shortly to see what they are like, but ideally I would go with son.

Re: 650b CX Tyres

Happy to pay for the Schwalbes if its a better tyre. It's a work bike so within reason, the cost difference between them of about £15 doesn't matter.

There is more importantly the fact the WTB's are a horrible two tone colour and the Schwalbes are plain black.

Ok looks like it's going to be painful unless I can get them to fit a smaller ring up front.

Re: CX Gear Ratios

I was thinking of a 36 for only putting on for itt's and with a ten it should still go ok down the hills. The rival1 can take a 38 according to sram, but I will have to see if a 36 will fit. Perhaps an oval might be worth a try.

650b CX Tyres

The Camino ships with WTB Horizons but Schwalbe G-One Allround’s are a cost option. Any opinions on either or a suggestion for something better.

It's for 99% urban road use.

CX Gear Ratios

Hey Guys, I'm struggling to work out what gear ratios I might want on a CX/adventure bike. I demo'd a Boardman with the rival1 44x11/42 on roads last weekend and that seemed fine for road use, but I didn't get to try it on any proper hills. The Camino is being demo'd next weekend over the YD200, (sl...

Unless the weather turns crap I won't take any camping gear or clothes/cooking stuff. Just some food and a very small tool kit, It shouldn't be a problem doing it in one hit.

It does look pretty good from the video, plenty of shots with fat tyres! I also happen to be on holiday when it's on.

Re: New Bike Suggestions

So after doing all good the sums and gear ratios I actually would rather a 2x setup rather than the sram 1x and if I do that I might only need a frame/forks, HS/BB. Does anybody know if I can use a pair of Shimano 105 10 speed shifter/levers (ST-5601) with any cable operated hydraulic disks or if no...

Apex1 Mechanical v Rival1 Hydraulic

Hello, What are the pros and cons between these two setup, if all the other components on a bike are identical? From the Apex 1 Mechanical, is it work and extra £200 to have Apex1 Hydaulic brakes? Is the Rival1 setup worth and extra £400 from the Apex1 Mechanical? It's for 90% Urban riding with the ...

I also have two Etrex's and a 12xl, but the Edge is the one I would take every time. Batteries, wha the hell are they, some old fashioned thing?? Dynamo or usb pack as that charges all your gismos.
