Re: Re-usable zip ties

Hi Scotroutes... I got a prompt yesterday something like "do you want to turn track recording off" - so I did, not knowing the result... in the manual: Track Log - turn track recording on or off My default is set to - Track log: Record, Show on map but anyway I got something wrong there......

Re-usable zip ties

There was thread on here a bit back... I bought a pack of these from B&Q - £4 to £5 quid I think, and I've got it to work: http://www.velcro.com/Products/Ties-and-Straps/Ties/Assorted-Color-Ties.aspx It's holding a Dakota 20 GPS. Carefully cut the velcro tie down the middle so it fits through wh...

"Just enjoying the simple pleasure of riding through natural landscape away from the rat race. I think there can be a lot of bull***t behind any subject so I try to ignore it."..... Brilliant !! I second that.

Re: No longer a mountain biker.

Yes I know where you are at... I don't want mtb'ing to become too popular, that means more rules and regulations... all I want is to be able to ride good trails in good country without the masses being there (selfish, elitist.. ? I don't give a sh1T about that. In my twenties I walked in the Lakes a...

Re: GPS Again

Thanks for that Scotroutes. I had just about sussed to do something like that, but it's good to see it from someone who uses it often... (it's quite different from the Edge 800.. in fact the BIG downside to the Edge 800 or Edge series is that they do not work on batteries, so doing a multi-day becom...

Re: GPS Again

Thanks all.... I think where the manual is adrift is that it has a list of separate topics + an index BUT it doesn't actually say what you do when you have switched the unit on and start riding... for example do you "Create a route" or go for "Managing Tracks...A track is a recording ...

Re: GPS Again

Thanks for that Scotroutes..."The tracklog is active all the time, so you have no need of Start and Stop. Just make sure you clear the active tracklog before each ride and save it at the end of the ride." Clear the active tracklog is the same as reset ? And save it before doing that ? But ...

Re: GPS Again

Dakota 20... user manual= crap ! I'm used to using an Edge 800, you start a ride, and when finished you stop it. I assumed that with a Dakota 20 as soon as it is switched on, it records your distance and time, so when you have finished you switch it off (to end recording). But this does not seem to ...

Re: GPS Again

If I buy a Dakota 20 can I use the Micro SD card in my Edge 800 for maps on the Dakota ? If not has anyone bought from http://gb.ioffer.com/i/2012-garmin-gb-d ... -127349741 ?

Are they genuine and would they come on a Micro SD card ?

Re: Bloody saddles again - really, really sorry.

I got a Specialised Toupe Expert a few weeks ago... it's very light and very minimal with a slot along the middle - cost £80
even though it's hard and minimal it may help because there is so little of your butt on it, on the other hand a comfy armchair saddle may cause a problem

Re: Solo bivi rides

Just before the longest day I was out over Winter Hill, tent up just off the path, in a mixture of heather and bilberry which gave my pitch a nice fragrance... it was a lovely night and didn't really get dark at all to the north, but a strong wind was getting up which made me keep waking up... the f...

Re: Bikepacking - where's it heading?

An interesting discussion... here's my tuppence worth : I've been a fell-runner, climber (still am a bit), alpine climber, road cyclist until 1990, then mtb since then... I love it, the physical exercise, the terrain, the riding, BUT what does really count is the Land, the Love of the Land, somethin...

Garmin Edge 800 and Powerchimp...

I've bought a Powerchimp as backup for my Garmin... it came Saturday... BUT the attachment connector is 13mm wide and the slot on the Garmin is 12mm wide ! So it doesn't fit. I could file it a bit I suppose... Anyway I've emailed Powerchimp and am waiting for their reply. (It fits a Garmin Edge 305 ...

Re: Offroad from home?

reading this makes me realise how lucky I am. I'm 4.5 miles from the top of Winter Hill (overlooks Rivington, where the Commonwealth Games MTB course was held, and a few Ironman Triathlons have been staged over here). To get to Winter Hill I go down the (dreaded ) A666 for 0.3 miles (on the pavement...

Re: Tell me about the Tour of the Cairngorms route

Did the tour twice, once alone, then a year later with a friend Started Blair Atholl heading north over Meall an Uillt Chreagaich, then down to Glen Feshie - overnight in a bunkhouse sort of B&B (a tough day, 27 miles over desolate hills, some good tracks, some faint, but rideable 95% - definite...
