Re: Bivvy a Month 2021
Love that sheltered spot improvisation Jimmy - could be one hell of a wake up call if you really slept in! Still playing catch up here - April was my first non-garden bivvy of the year, but I didn't stray too far from home, heading out on the last moody night of the month to follow the Elsick Mounth...

Re: Tell me bout NC500
That's very true! I'd imagine busy single track roads with impatient people ignoring the passing places would probably get old pretty quickly. Why not just commit to getting the train up to Thurso and then ride down through Scotland to return home from a station further south? You can see a wide ran...

Great spot for a night out and glad to hear someone is looking after the bridge! Hope the home news isn't as bad as it sounds.

Re: Bivvy a Month 2021
I've really enjoyed catching up with all the posts in this thread, whilst fully aware I haven't done any yet this year! I am still going however so please bear with me whilst I catch up... The lockdown period really got me down to be honest, but I managed to force myself to squeeze some time in amon...

I think Rich used the bothy at Carnmore rather than risk being out in the bad weather on one of the nights, not sure about Josh though?

Re: Plus or Fat
I bought a fat bike frame and then got sidetracked and built up some 29+ wheels for it because It was probably more what I was after. I never got round to building the proper fatbike ones as I'm so happy with it the way it is. Has seen a fair bit of snow and sand too: https://i.postimg.cc/TP92M1ZH/I...

Re: HT550 2021
Well done on getting your write-up done so quickly, Trep - think it took me months! Really enjoyed it, especially as a culmination of your blog posts building up to it over the last couple of years. It was great to see your dot get all the way round - in a few weeks you will start thinking about all...

Not as jealous as I am of everyone doing it this week! Though the weather did take the mickey that year.

Re: Gloves for wet and windy weather
Agree they are not as loose fitting as some. For reference, My hands are a definite large and I can fit the XL over woollen gloves or my Endura MT500s without an issue. Will depend on how chunky your fingers are really and how thick your normal gloves are?

Re: Gloves for wet and windy weather
I got myself some of these as a backup to wear over normal gloves in case of apocalyptic weather. Unfortunately I haven't needed to use them yet to comment on effectiveness! https://media.screwfix.com/is/image//ae235?src=ae235/23872_P&$prodImageMedium$ https://www.screwfix.com/p/showa-281-temres...

Re: HT550 2021
All the best people finish in 5 1/2 days  https://highlanddrifter.com/highland-trail-550-2018 I'd put myself at the unfit end of the HT550 scale, but got through by just plodding on regardless, even when I was going nowhere fast. I did a lot more night riding than I expected to, but it helped ...

Re: Winter boots and gloves
Really what I’m after is a waterproof/insulated ankle heigh pair of Five Tens with enough tread for the odd muddy/icy path. Weren't Adidas doing something in conjunction with 5/10? I think they don’t currently make a waterproof option in either mid or high top. They nearly exist, but I've been wait...

Re: Wildlife
Not sure what these birds were. Looked like finches but I get confused with colours and names. The were mainly white with hints of black and there was hundreds of em in the courtyard (of the hospital) that could be seen from the ward I was working on today. There seemed to be one massive nest share...

I'm loving this - it's amazing how much the miles rack up even in modestly sized areas. Who would have thought a sewage treatment plant would be so welcoming?

Re: Strictly Local
Yes we're pretty lucky in this area to have an extensive network of small roads and tracks criss-crossing all over the place. Happily, no beatings were applied on this journey, though I did get grief on Strava for not heading out to sea to fully follow the eastern boundary!

Re: Strictly Local
Happy to have planted a few seeds, though I'm beginning to feel lucky I didn't have too big an area to cover! Aberdeenshire would have been no chance, though once lockdown is over... Bars are On-One OG bars and I have them on a couple of bikes as they're just the right balance of sweep and width for...
