Ordered, let's see if I get stung for customs as it's first time I've ordered out of EU. Definitely need something for the mossies and midges. Good review Stu, thanks.

Re: Rant - Leave no Trace

I could have a rant but I won't. Used to work for the Forestry Commission and some of that time was responsible for the management of recreational facilities. It was bad enough in the picnic places and carparks but even out on some of the longer walks the litter that was left behind was apalling. On...

Re: The post man's been ...

On a spending spree! A very nice package from Backcountry in Aviemore containing Revelate Pika and Jerrycan, Alpamayo front harness, front accessory bag and a small frame bag. All tried out on bike and fits well, though a bit of jiggling with cables required. Also got a Klymit Ozone airpad which has...

Re: BareBones Fatfighters - The weigh in

Good post Norway, very much agree with your thought and those of Stu. I probably had my last homemade steak and stilton shortcrust pastry pie for a while though  Apologies, for lateness with weigh in, I'm now at 73.8 kg. Not much, but as the wife was working Xmas and New Year (didn't stop the e...

Re: Walking in Scotland

Have a look at the Cowal Way. Cowal itself is often overlooked as the hills lack altitude, but it has small but very rugged mountains, native woodlands, sea and fresh water lochs and so on. At 57 miles it should be doable in 4 or 5 days. Logistics might be a bit more difficult than East Highland way...

Re: Winter headwear and bothy slippers

Depending on temp, a buff, colder, a BTwin/Decathlon skull cap, really cold an old Lowe Alpine mountain cap, similar to above with a Planet X thermal buff for the neck. I gave up on 'bothy slippers' and now use cheap croc ripoffs (which are amazingly light) with woollen socks, much better for nippin...

Re: 2017 plans

Generally, 1: Improve overall distance/time on bike. This last year was the first I kept records (never had a computer on an MTB before) so I will have something to build on. 2: Joined up for bivi a month. These last few years have seen a big reduction on nights under canvas so need to man up a bit....

Re: BareBones Fatfighters - The weigh in

As of today, Height 167cm, Weight 74kg, Waist 94cm (37in), BMI 26.5. Was 78kg at this time last year and got it down to 72 kg for daughter's wedding in May (had to fit into the kilt I got as a teenager) but crept back up when I took my eye off the ball autumn onwards. Would like to get down to about...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2017.

Would like to have a go at this as I've been getting a bit soft the last couple of years. Having said that is a tent in the winter months acceptable, night time forecast for here (Hungarian Puszta) is -10 to -15 next week!
