Re: SRAM force question

I think the 11sp road stuff is the same actuation as everything up to 10sp. 11sp mountain is different and 12 different again. What cassette are you looking to run? I bit the bullet and bought the 1150 XD cassette over Shimano when I went 11 speed this time last year and it's impressively hard weari...

Re: Cycle2Charge and other chargers/converters

I've tended to use mine tucked in the bottom of a stem cell style feed bag or the front of the frame bag. That said, it's not been much use the last couple of trips as at sightseeing speed it doesn't generate any meaningful oomph. I have thought about wrapping tape around the usb joint for a little ...

Re: Recommendations for small camera

If the new lumixes (lumii? lumice?) are up to parr with the one I've had since 2012 I'll echo that. They're never going to handle low light and movement like a big camera but I take lot more photos than I otherwise would because I can keep it in my pocket

Re: Tool lust...

The bike last night had one of those chainring-mounted trouser protector rings on so that standby didn't work. Hmmm. I've made it work with a freeridey style big-ring-replacement bashguard, can't say I've tried it on something with a trouser protector. Hang on, do you mean one of the chain cases th...

Re: Tool lust...

I did read a tip that you could open quick links... If needed- put quick link on chainring, move one side of the quick link over one tooth so the quick link sticks out making a triangle, then hit sticking out roller in the direction of the quick link with a multi tool/hammer/rock depending on despe...

Re: Electronic 1x12 with wireless drop-bar shifters

That is almost exactly my thought process, practically word for word. If I'd been building a proper road bike I'd have been all over the di2 but this is a cross bike and I have been known to have silly crashes on it from time to time.

Re: Electronic 1x12 with wireless drop-bar shifters

I was just in the fortunate position of being able to choose between di2 and cable- new (SH) crosser had ultegra di2, old one has cable 1x. The di2 was very, very cool and the idea of xt rear mech 1x was extremely tempting but in the end I came to a similar conclusion to whitestone- I prefer 1x and ...

Re: Wildcat Tiger playing with a dropper

Borrowed 'calibration build' time on work 3d printer. The upper quarter or so clamps onto the reverb. It's not a perfect fit- it can sometimes take a go or two to get an idea of how the tolerances on a part like that stack up so I went a little oversize and it's lined with electrical tape. I thought...

I made my own- the lower is hollow and has a larger internal diameter than the reverb collar so I didn't lost much drop.

Not the best picture I'm afraid, but hopefully you'll get the picture.

Re: Advice on chairing for 1×11

Used those on a couple of singlespeeds and a couple of 1x. Great ss chainring, lasts for ever. I don't use it anymore because I prefer an oval. Had one on a 1x10 setup back when 1x11 was still hilariously expensive (possibly before? I'm not sure I'm cool enough for that) and you really need a chain ...

Interesting. I tried a threadlocker of some sort on the OHs bike- didn't seem to solve creaking but made removing it harder, so I stopped.

Re: Are you having owt interesting for Christmas?

In an attempt to better myself in an area I have been meaning to for ages, I am expecting a raspberry pi and some basic electronickery to 'learn stuff' on. I've just bought a new (second hand) bike so I don't really need anything else there! Christmas will be spent with the family- eat too much, bro...

Re: Where are all the women?

My OH does 'fun' mountain biking in almost all conditions but is not keen on death marches or type 2 fun. We met MTBing. We do some lightweight touring, bikepacking style bags rather than panniers, and the odd bivvi or bothy in nicer conditions, but she's just not got much interest in going out in t...

Re: Veloviewer map - explorer tiles

Well, today's ride looping up round the Epsom and across to Cobham, aside from showing remarkable amounts of green given how close it is to Lon-don, got me up to 12x12. What's nice though is that it's a completely different 12x12 to the 11x11 I had previously- three squares that sit in between and o...

Re: Transmission racket; any ideas??

I've seen it a few times
I've done it exactly twice, but seen it on others a few times. The first time I was in a hurry, chucked the chain on and sprinted off down the road, pretty much sawed through the tab. Second time I stopped after about two strokes!

Re: Frame Bag, chain rings, 11-46t 11speed casette

Sneaky hijack, but I have an alpkit framebag for a 17.5" solaris at home if anyone's interested. Pretty sure it's never been used- bought it here or on stw from somone who'd had a change of plans but then a revelate came up on here which suits me better as it swaps between MTB and tourer. I've ...

Re: Zippy's MYOG/DIY/Tinkering thread.

It's taken me a year to get round to it but finally put a new battery in an old joystick following these instructions. Hardest part was getting all the wires back in! (I did add a bit of length to let me take the battery out without cutting the wires next time)

Thanks for the advice!

Re: Exposure Light Issue

The contact in the back of my joystick is a bit out, unless you get it just so the light doesn't turn red when charging. Still charges though. Everything works as it should using my maxx d and other half's exposure lights. I think some of the chargers can be a bit iffy- have you another you could try?
