Re: Scotland

Just a 2 week trip. You've be surprised what you can do and the ground you can cover. Each place you visit seems like another day, even if you visit 5 places in a day.

Hope you enjoy your Alps trip Gairy

Re: Scotland

The insparation and routes mainly came from here: http://www.selfsupporteduk.net/ I'm not going to take any of the credit for the route. It was a case of taking the Ullapool to Fort Augustus, part of the Highlands route, and joining it to the widely published Scottish C2C and then adding in part of ...

Re: Scotland

Cairngorms This was the part of the trip i was looking forward to the most, and it didnt disappoint. When i was planning the route, one of the issues was how many miles to do each day. Too many and i'd be rushing and not enjoying myself, too few and i'd me kicking my heals at the end of each day. 6...

Re: Scotland

Highlands The weather was still holding as i was probably north enough to be missing the worst of it. The days were warm with cold nights. Short ride off the ferry northwards to my first Scottish Bothy of the trip http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8020/7488566992_df130703dc.jpg A nice bothy. 2 rooms do...

Paint Repair

Just taken off my frame bag, and its rubbed some of the paint off down to the frame (forgot to put tape on that bit)
Best way to protect the frame (its steel) before i tape it up before the next trip. Not too fussed if its not pretty, just want to protect the frame from rusting.

Scotland

Seems like Scotland is the place to be this summer. Because of the industry i work in, we have to have a 2 week break every year (good and bad). Always wanted to go proper north, and visit the Outer Hebrides, so it seemed like a good excuse to go up and explore. Planned a route taking me from Oban, ...

Re: Tim Woodcock's Coast to Coast

I did it a few years back. A very good route, although you might want to make a few subtle changes, as some of the bridleways mentioned are not very ridable. Start/End - The starts easy to get to as there is a train service which runs to St. Bees, and the 'start' is a mile or so away. Robins Hoods B...

Kit that worked/didnt?

After this weekends WRT, i imagine everyones kit got throughly tested.

Just wondering out of everything you brought along, what one piece of kit wouldn't you have left without, which piece should you have left at home, and what did you wish you had have packed but didnt?

My route on sunday, will be weather dependant. The worst of the rain is in the morning so a bit of a late start, and then see how the weather pans out throughout the day

Re: Welsh Ride Thing 2012

Just a quick word of warning for anyone coming from the north, who hasn't been to Stu's before.

Newtown is a bit of a traffic bottleneck, and can take some time to get through, especially on a Saturday afternoon, when bank holiday traffic is in full swing. Try and avoid it if you can.

Shows the heritage paths throughout Scotland, including the Hebrides. Dont know how ridable they are, but hopefully a few ideas.

Re: Pennine Bridalway

Ridden a lot of the northern sections of the PBW, as parts of other rides, but never in one go. All very ridable, if maybe a bit dull in places, with it being a general use trail. As for the MTL, convension is to ride it clockwise. You make the most of the height gain/decents. Done it once, not sure...

Where do you live Jack?

You might live around the corner from someone who has one you can try for size?

Or give the guys at on-one a ring and they might be able to advise a bit more (pop into their shop if you live anywhere near Sheffield)
