Re: Bivvy a month 2022

November bivvy in progress. A slow and damp ride out to Burton Dassett hills where I set up in a hollow on the ridge. It's a good spot out of sight of the road and car parks and one I've used before. The only military stuff round here is the Kineton army base where they keep missiles under ground an...

FS - Maxx-D, Ultegra 10speed shifters, Hope V-Twin brakes

Hi all I seem to be replacing old stuff with new, but not getting shot of the old stuff, so here goes: Exposure Maxx D - it's old, probably 2010 - 2012 and is 1400 lumens on max. It has had lots of use, but is still fully functional and cosmetically tidy. Will be sold with a bar mount (31.8mm bars) ...

Re: It could be useful I suppose?!!

I think I've seen it all now. And do people really buy this stuff? Is it a "buy it, but never ever use it" type thing? A bit like car bead seat covers and 12V vacuums for the car.

Re: The post man's been ...

An Exposure Maxx D - black Friday purchase as it had 35%off. I knew my old (probably 2010) MaxxD's days were numbered when after 20 minutes on high on the BB300 it started flashing and going to low power. The new one is fantastic (bathroom test only as apart from mentioning it here, it's a complete ...

Cheers Taylor road bike it is then.

Skyline roofs to get a lift up lid fitted. Should eek out a few more years with this van.

Mendips - rideable at the moment or avoid?

Any Somerset dwellers here? I'm down in the Mendips on Thursday to get some work done on the van, and the place is right at the bottom of the Mendips. I was going to take a bike to occupy myself for the day, but not sure whether to take a road bike or mtb. What are the Mendips like with the recent r...

Re: Sleeping bag liners

To add warmth I'd be inclined to wear a down jacket/ gilet or thermal base layer. I love my superlight down jacket which takes my cumulus 200 bag down to a very comfortable 0 degrees.

Without the jacket it would be comfortable down to 5 or 6 degrees.

Lots of routes Jim, but not many events.

Dales Divide is 600km (Chris Ellison of TD fame is the organiser)
Big Bear 530 -a route around central Wales but not an event
Lots of Wales coast 2 coast or loops - pm me for gpxs

Or you could look at xDuro

Re: What do you cook and what on when out bikepacking

I tend to just boil water on a meths stove (Stu's afterburner) to make hot chocolate or fill a porridge pot.
Any more than that and I eat in a pub.

My Planet X hardtail would be perfect if it had a slightly bigger main triangle. So El Mariachi, Whippet, anything like that is the perfect set up (for me). There's a lot of people out there pushing trends and fashions as they make money out of you when you buy into it. In every walk of life. So a b...

Re: Next weekends BB200

Thanks Stu for cracking event - about as much adventure as can be had in the UK in a weekend - and at times a bit more than wanted! It's a good thing you aren't on route as more than a few choice words are muttered as we push, scramble, slip up another hillside, fall into another gate etc. Anyway, ...

Cheers Phil and Bob, I baled at the bottom of the climb before Great Rhos, and am sure I made the right decision. Re: Next weekends BB200

I bailed on the 300 - it was a wet start for the first 6-7 hours, I was knackered and my heart wasn't in it today. Which is a shame as the route is a cracker - and in dry conditions would have been quick and fun. No badge for me this year (unless there's an "otters pocket " badge).. Tom Be...

Inspiration or Disappointment?

My daughter is 31 and living in New Zealand- thoroughly enjoying the outdoor lifestyle. For years it would appear that my exploits and sleeping in ditches has been frowned upon, but yesterday that all changed...... :-bd She phoned me to ask about bikepacking gear and for advice - she's off with frie...

Re: Bivvy a month 2022

Just back for breakfast from my October bivvy. Had planned to go further afield, but lack of motivation meant I took the easy lazy option and chucked the basics into a backpack and took the CX bike out to a local nature reserve about 5 miles away. Rain was forecast during the night so I spent 10 min...

I'd suggest you don't get a gore shakedry. Whilst brilliant and totally waterproof they might not be available in your sizing and are also quite fragile.

Another outdry looks like your best option

Re: Aggression from others spoil your ride?

Name and shame the pub Adventurer.... Dolgellau is busy with lots of cycling traffic and cyclists using Coed y Brenin etc. The owner needs recognising for being unpleasant. As a mainly roady, I frequently get close passes or tooted (especially for using the road when there's a crap cycle path). This...

Re: What’s going on here…(cry for help content…)

The adaptors should have an oring or something that seals or clicks into the hub. This is probably pressing on the outer bearing race in the hub bearings and causing your issue.
I can't think what else it could be.
