Re: The Tour Divide 2023 thread

I will be keeping track of Jerry Sharp from Derby who rode it about 4 years ago. He is 66 and aiming for 28 days. The bike I used was quite inexpensive, about £700 or so. The frame was a dinged ex demo Voodoo Aizan from Sideway's Cycles, forks and wheels s/hand from STW ( wheels never been used)*. T...

Gone Caving: I had this issue and asked on here and imgur was suggested for inserting on posts. I still have not set it up but usually use Strava or Instagram for my pics.

Looking forward to the race unfold. Kurt won the TD that I rode what feels like a lifetime ago. At least Mr Ibbett will be used to the lack of sleep being a recent father.

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

Does Scunthorpe count as a good place to head for? A localish bike shop, Velotastic in Chesterfield, publishes routes from time to time. I had done a chunk of one last year and they recently included a 101 mile route North from Worksop. I had been planning a 90-100 mile route from Derby along NCN6 t...

Re: Today's Walk.

On Sunday myself and herself walked 10km around Welbeck Abbey grounds. It is closed to the public but is opened up for one day a year for a 10km charity run and walk. The real motivation for attending was being able to get into two Veloviewer tiles that are not normally accessible. There is a third ...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

April done. Check out my activity on Strava: https://strava.app.link/cWqScu0orzb I had to cancel WRT because of major works going on at home, damp course, kitchen, heating and rewire is currently been undertaken. Besides having work to get on with my knee started hurting after a ride last weekend an...

Re: JK 2023

My friends enjoyed it as well, one of their club members won one of the junior classes. Scottish 6 days were fun. I ran in them between 1977 and 1991. The ‘77 courses used the 1976 World Championships maps. Have a great time. My friends are off to race in Ireland shortly, both sides of the border. T...

I hope to do the route this summer if time allows. I would be getting the train across and have not studied the route closely enough on which station makes most sense for me.

Looks great. My last orienteering race was in that part of the Lakes in December 1992, can't recall the specific area now. Three of us travelled up for the weekend.

Re: JK 2023

Let us know how it goes. I have seen an event on in a local park in mid May. I may go and have a walk jog around in my first event since being an M21, I will be a last year M60. Only thing stopping me is a 10km charity run/walk the following day.

Re: JK 2023

No, my first JK was in 1977 and last was 1992, would not have missed any between those dates. Some friends of mine are going who I have known since those days, all in the oldie classes. We ride together on a Thursday but they were all missing today.

Re: The Pictish Trail - more Scotlandshire for you.

A tour of the Badger Divide up to inverness and then pick up the Pictish trail back to Edinburgh looks nice. Maybe Great North Trail back to Glasgow for a loop looks likes a nice trip.

The Northern bit looks great as well, maybe a second trip for the sections of Pictish / GNT missed out in SCotland.

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

I got out Sunday night. I had decided to ride out to a memorial to Ada Lovelace, a chum of Charles Babbage and all round clever clogs who died aged just 36. She had been brought up nearby. I was feeling tired from the start and into a headwind. I stopped at a cafe around 3pm and then carried on a fe...

I also went decades ignoring flat pedals until about 5-6 years ago. I had booked a ferry to Bilbao planning to ride back to Blighty. I had decided I was not going to 'race' just have a nice time touring. I had some cheap Superstar pedals and some Merrill walking shoes and I had a nice trip and doubt...

I still regularly ride a '94 Kona Kilauea and that was around £800 at time. Quite a mark-up on original price and a few tech changes since then. Suspect the seller will struggle to get that sort of money.
I still enjoy riding mine in gravel type situations.
