As Ian says instructions are that they can be stored in its pack. I do store my standard thermarest inflated though.
I have noticed that they have gone down a bit overnight in colder conditions though.

Poundland sometimes have little folding trowels. Surprisingly they cost £1. Not for gram counters though.

Just finished this short ebook by Carrot Quinn. Really enjoyed it, well written, though a very different lifestyle to mine. Nice, happy ending as well: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Thousand-Miles-Freight-Train-ebook/dp/B00AXPRA8M/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1359745449&sr=1-1 Proper review ...

Ray - well done. I usually drink once a week on a Saturday night. Bottle of wine and some of Scotland's finest with Mrs B. Must admit I can take it or leave it, purely social for me. Prefer peppermint tea - less calories & cheaper than beer as well!

Re: Resolutions?
Still a good achievement Ian considering weather and using only a singlespeed. I suspect (hoping!) that HRT 430 will not be so bad. All you have to do is ride your bike. None of that pesky work to get in the way. Was thinking of aiming for 1,000km in February. I was ill at the start of the year and ...

Merino t's at £18/£25. Just got one and they are a thinner merino, don't know what weight, and expect it to be good for riding in:

You don't need to go far, it would be a great adventure to the local woodland for a kid.

Re: Bladder in frame bag?
I use either a 4l MSR bladder or a 3l camlebak bladder. Sometimes with one of those roll-up bladders if I need any more. I prefer to keep plain water in the bladder and energy mix in a separate bottle.

Re: Reveal the path ... what's it about?
Just riding along in beautiful places is never going to be 'rad to the power of sick' compared with throwing yourself of buildings and 'nailing' it. A difficult thing to pull off. 'in which people do a lot of standing around, a little riding and much talking about very little' is probably what most ...

Thanks Taylor. Try and book 3 months in advance and you can get decent prices. Look at 'splitting' your route as well for savings. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-train-tickets It is a days journey each way for most of us in England. Is it worth it? I think so. It always seem bigger so...

I was 54 yesterday and I am still dreaming about doing things. I consider this a positive and that I am not drifting into old age with nothing on the horizon.

Re: Paper Maps vs GPS
I prefer maps but know gps is way forward. Back in 1977 (before most of you were born I won my class at the Irish orienteering championships and competed in O events for almost 20 years. I also like to see the big picture but for moving quick on the fly then gps is best. I always take a map with me ...

Backing up what Mart says above I first read about the TD in 1999/2000 - it had been on my radar a LONG time. The CRT is quite a technical challenge rather than the long steady miles of TD, different but much shorter. There are more events taking place in USA but the Highland Trail Race route in SCo...
