Re: Thunderstorms

To badly paraphrase the late great terry pratchett, don't run around on a granite surface waving a big lump of metal while yelling "All gods are bastards!". His example was a sword but a bike would probably be just as effective.

Re: Today's Run

The most I've had in a single run is 350m of climbing, lumpy indeed.

Slowly getting back up to distances again, it's been hard work getting back into the habit of getting out the door on a lunchtime, especially while it's been so warm.

I just use a classic cateye omni 5 on my seat stay - not usb rechargeable but lasts long enough it's never mattered.

Thanks you lot  BB200/300... yes I knew that was coming around, but hadn't twigged that it's tomorrow. Well, let's get one stupid thing out of the way first, and see. It's also the start of the Tour de France tomorrow, which I realise may split the room, but I'm a bit partial, Eurosport havin...

Re: Cinder track. Scarborough to whitby

I think it's all about the max 3% gradient, it's low enough that you're not really aware of it one way of the other until you coast. The Newport Greenway is exactly the same near me - it's a 1% climb almost all the way to Gnosall and then a 1% descent at the end into the village.

Ironically, that makes me think about plotting a route on Komoot, even though you've planned your route precisely, you never know how much you'll have to adapt when you get there.

Re: Decent lock for bikepacking

I use a ziplock combo lock - won't stop anyone with tools but it'll stop someone just jumping on on a whim and riding off and it weighs nowt. I came across a bike yesterday that was shackled to railings in the centre of town with a gold certified d-lock. At least the frame was, because someone had n...

Re: Route creation - workflow, algorithms and the like

RWGPS is great for gravel bikes, I don't find it as good if you want a more MTB route since it prefers a country lane to a bridalway if there's the option. I don't know if the paid version allows you to tweak that. As others have said, Komoot is terrible for routing you on to a footpath and I won't ...

Re: Veloviewer map - explorer tiles

Went out for a 3 hour ride on country lanes last night and filled in the empty square on my 9x9 block while putting in lots of foundations for the 15x15 I'm building towards - just 48 squares to go so hopefully I can get that done this summer.

The Ventures seem very nice. They were quite easy to mount and popped on with a track pump and 80psi. Not Stan's them up yet, but they seem to be holding air quite nicely so far without it. Hopefully I've not just cursed myself... Doubt it : ) My experience with WTB tyres has been really good, alwa...

Re: What you done t' your bike today

I've failed so far to get my current tyres off the rims - tried thumbs, tried stepping on a block of wood adjacent to the rim but can't seem to break the bead. The gravel bike has largely been sat in the garage for a year so the sealant has almost certainly dried and my attempts to get it off seems ...
