Re: Cafe/shop locks for Bikepacking

Have a look through the reviews of The Lock Picking Lawyer on YouTube and see that they're all pretty crap in the hands of a competant theif.

Re: OT local history

Really interesting stuff that, thanks for posting. I did a bit of walling in upper Teesdale one summer many years ago on a mates farm when the neighbouring farm had a particularly randy bull and kept knocking bits down. I seem to remember that the through stones were refered to as " thruffs&quo...

Re: Cafe/shop locks for Bikepacking

A velcro strap holding the front brake on is an easy confusion maker... stops it from being instantly wheeled away, and buys a few seconds ... would a tiny padlock through the drive chain be any good? I regularly use a length of velcro one-wrap around the brake lever to stop the bike rolling away, ...

Yes! It's...... gaffer and cableties time again! Everyone knows they're the only things you really need in your toolkit, but we also know you can make any bikepacking gear out of them too. After 4 years or so I've lost the top to my 500ml bottle so I've had to invest in a new one (bottle and top, n...

Ah yeah sorry, I just linked the page I happened to be on. This is what I actually like the look of... https://muckynutz.com/skinz/frame_skinz_contours_matt That's rather nice but seems expensive to me. I use clear gorilla tape. Lasts forever but makes a hell of a mess when you do want to remove it.

Re: Bikepacking with health (stomach) issues?

I have shat into a green ( biodegradable but not very robust) co-op carrier bag inside the tent on numerous occasions ( dreading the day this goes horribly wrong) and dangled it off the bars until I find the nearest dog crap bin as I regularly have only a few moments notice in the mornings. Thankful...

Re: Gravelmap.com

North Notts / north Lincs / south Yorks isn't the off road void that this would seem to imply. Like any user submitted database its going to be massively inconsistant and potentially lead people astray. For example there is no legal (bike) access from Great Dun Fell to Cross Fell/Gregs Hut. Its not ...

Just a shame its only in grey
Outdry jackets look weird regardless, so the colour doesn't matter much.
Maybe not on some moorland track but on the road I'd rather have something bright over something that blended into the general mirk.

Cheers woodsmith. Do you have a gpx of your route please. I am guessing you went from lochan sgeireach, North West ish. It certainly looks like a hefty push (adventure) heading south eastwards in the opposite direction I guess if its been dry then it could be a yeah, if it's wet then vote no. I don...

It'd be quite a push from the loch uo to the top but probably no worse than the bit of pushing coming up Glen Golly the other way.

Is there a way to input a GR into Bing Maps or other in order to plot a route without having a physical paper map or the OS app? https://gridreferencefinder.com/ is your friend. Very enjoyable write up that. I was particularly interested in your experience on the Maiden Way. I'd planned to do that myself following the recent lakes meet-up weekender but missed out due to illness.. How would you say it compared to the other two routes over the top there?
