Re: Squirt Lube or something Else?

Big fan of Smoove. Easily get double the mileage compared to the oil based lube used previously. Just did 4500 km round Morocco and adjusted the chain once (Rohloff, KMC chain). All dry miles admittedly but lots of dust, sand, dirt roads etc. Lubed chain approx every other day ( 150 - 200km).

Re: Todays ride

After a month of looking after me old mum following a fall and a broken collar bone, her sling came off today and I thought I'd take the opportunity to try to crack 200 km in a day on my local route (Lincoln Gravel Imp on bikepacking) . 16 km in a piece of the True Cross wrecked the only slightly wo...

If just riding the bike isn't doing it how a about giving it some purpose? Could you combine it with something else? Birdwatching, photography, visiting every grid square in your area, making up rood words on Strava with your routes?

Maybe the seat of my pants isn't that sensitive but I find it hard to tell the difference between tyres and without doing back-to-back testing, same day, same conditions etc i think ii would be impossible for me to make any accurate conclusions beyond looking at the tread and going " thats more...

Haha... sorry to hear that Woodsmith sir. I never said before, but Malaysia. Aren't some of the Atlas mountains extended over into there. Some of the kindest and most polite people you'd ever meet (IMO) and food - to die for :-bd Just saying  I take it that Malaysia is an auto-correct of Mas...

I did it on the east side. Pretty easy push, but all pushing. River crossing at the north end was easy but it was during a dry spell.

I'm gonna guess that you didn't attempt to join any locals at (just at the point of) maghrib (sunset prayers) time whilst they stuffed themselves with lovely Moroccon food dyring the opening of the fast. You'd have been most welcome :-bd I'd (educatedly) guess and would have managed various delicac...

Re: Morocco 2023

Plenty of cyclists on the north side of the Atlas mountains. A few organized tour groups. But only met 3 on the south, desert side. I saw 1 in the middle of the desert, in the middle of nowhere. Red shirt, blue Tureg scarf. He wouldn't stop to say hello. So I assumed he was French or Woodsmith from...

Morocco 23

I recentley returned from almost 3 months in Morocco, the vast majority of the time being spent south of the High Atlas. The origanal plan had been to spend two months there, landing In Marrakesh, following the Atlas Mountain Race route down towards Tiznit and then taking the Route of Caravans from ...

Re: Trousers for wearing post cycling on bikepacking

Generally I just wear baggy-ish shorts and don't bother with long trousers. I do have some zip off leg Endura mtb trousers that are good for camp, especially in Scotland against the flying teeth. I've also used them in Turkey and will take them on my upcomming trip to Morocco for the sake of cultura...

Re: S2S Aeros pillow repair

Quick update.
I sent a request into S2S via the form on the website on the 10th and didn't hear anything for over a week. Gave them a call on the 21st and they emailed a DPD returns form. Got a new one dropped off this morning. Very impressed with the sevice. No proof of purchase was required.

Got in touch with Wahoo support who were very helpful with a prompt response, as were RWGPS. From Wahoo "open the elemnt app when you have your device paired to the app and then tap ypur profile image in the profile tab 10 times. This should then display a "secret menu" from this menu...

Re: Spare tyre on a tour?

Old fashioned inner tube stitched over sticking have repaired a side wall cut. I also swopped the cut front tyre to the back. I figured a rear tyre blow- out would be a inconvenience. A flat front blow out would be over the bars and ride limiting... Intersting idea. I hadn't thought about the front...

Re: Tailfin Aeropack

I've always thought the Tailfin thing was a very expensive solution to a non existant problem. I just fail to see what it offers overs a regular rear rack with dry bag strapped to the top that performs the same function at a similar weight for a fraction of the cost. I have seen two separate reports...

Re: Marrying a Revelate Spinelock to superlight carbon rails!

If the saddle rails are strong enough to support a rider I would have thought that the added weight of a saddle bag shouldn't over stress them as long as the combined weight of rider + bag is within the max weight stated for the saddle (if there is one). My main fear would be the straps quickly sawi...

Re: Spare tyre on a tour?

Thanks chaps for your thoughts. Unfortunetley I'm entering and exiting Morocco from different cities so leaving one at a hotel for collection isn't an option. It feels like I'm being over cautious to lug a kilo of spare tyre around so I will leave one boxed up ready with my sister to Fedex/ups out s...

Re: So this is who lights fires ...

In his defence it does look like the fire is on a hard surface rather than soil/vegetation so there is less damage being done. But its warm enough that he's in shirt sleeves and seems to have sufficient carrying capacity that there's what appears to be a guitar/violin case in the background, so plen...

Spare tyre on a tour?

I'll be off to Morocco shortly for a couple of months, followed hopefully by 6 to 8 weeks back through Spain and i can't decide whether I should take a spare tyre. The new Chronicles ( set up tubeless) fitted will last the distance no problem but a gashed sidewall will leave me shafted in Morocco wi...

Travel insurance for cycling

Who are you using for travel insurance for your foreign bike trips? Ideally I'm looking for single trip up to 12 months that can be extended while abroad. Medical and repatriation only . Don't need cancellation and sleeping in a tent/fleabag hotel usually doesn't cover the anti-theft requirements. N...
