Re: Gatewood Cape - Pole - Question for Stu
"Allow a half hour for the material/Reg to relax, then re-tension as necessary". By some bizarre coincidence that is exactly what Mrs Perrin does to me on an ongoing basis  . I noticed I hadn't had a confirmation email for my Gatewood, so I dropped them an email. They responded very...

Re: Gatewood Cape - Pole - Question for Stu
Sorry, I misquoted... I'm going mad 'ere... other way round... I think he was suggesting angling to start with then pushing it more vertical as things loosened up.... but yes it did sound a bit mumbo-jumbo anyway .

Re: Gatewood Cape - Pole - Question for Stu
Funnily enough was reading a Gatewood review today where the geezer was suggesting pole angling for tautening up after pitching. Guess I'll ignore that then. Awaiting arrival of said cape at the moment. Soon I shall be a caped crusader, and will delay pole decision until then.

Re: Opinions on winter wear trousers, thermals and waterproofs
Oh - and merino is the work of the devil. It certainly is. If allowed two small provisos - a trip of up to 3 days (so, ahem, apologies, not helping your 'week' then  ), and warmer than about -5c - then a simple formula works for me: Similar to Stu, Madison Tempest 3/4 shorts on every ride. If...

Re: Whats this 'rock'
Well spotted with the Mountain / Mynd inversion Mr Shaf .
Or is it? Maybe a Shropshire Lad (or Lass obviously) could tell us if Mynd is a corruption of Mynydd or is actually an old Salop word meaning 'Very Icy Place Where Reg Ripped His Brand New Jacket To Shreds'.

Re: Whats this 'rock'
I thought my golfa / golfer thing was just a feeble attempt at a pun, but I've confused myself further because the Welsh English translator says 'golfa' indeed translates to 'golf' :???: . However in the other direction 'golf' is 'golff' so I have absolutely no idea what's going on now and intend to...

Re: Whats this 'rock'
So to add to Radars campsite connection here's another wacky one. Considering I was being naughty with the Golfa / Golfer reference (c'mon gimme a break..) ((and thank goodness we're not in Spain..)), there actually is a golf-course nearby at Llanymynech, and it has an interesting claim to fame........

Re: Whats this 'rock'
Aye, another of those weird BBB threads that throws up interesting connections . Offa's Dyke goes across it so probably had quite a colourful history with skirmishes and whatnot. Good pub near that campsite Radars (oops many apologies for mentioning that in Shaf's thread, I'll get me coat :??...

I'm being naughty about the golf course.... "Moel Y Golfa"... . You're right that a golf course might be a nice well-tended bivvy spot though .

Re: Whats this 'rock'
Got Criggion Quarry on it. Basalt. Or dolerite rather. Once had one of the highest single faces in the UK at 600' high. Presumably an old volcano.
We still love quarries
Probably the quarry that drew your eyes towards it Shaf, rather than the scenery

Re: Whats this 'rock'
Breidden Hill / Moel Y Golfa probably... dunno who would put a golf course on top of a hill though.
I know I'm 'really' in Wales when I see it from the train window.

Re: An Turas Mor
I'm now worried that because I've been in awe of yours and Trep's japes in quick succession it's because it seems like I'm perpetuating some patronising element towards female adventurers! My self-analysis would claim that it's not, but... now I'm worried about being worried  . Anyway I'm sure...

What a fantastic adventure, and well-crafted writeup and photos. Dervla reincarnated methinks  . What shines through is your adaptability, deal-with-it-as-it-comes, toughness. Maybe we take that as par for our course, but to be continuously responsible for your own 'private plague of locusts'...

Confiscated? Kidnapped more like. What's the ransom demand? Now got 15 flower heads on my two sunflowers, with more to come. How on earth do you stop them? They've gone rogue. Finally dried and packed WRT bivvy gear away in the loft so that keeps Mrs P happy (relatively). Still cheery after reading ...

Trep, as usual that was quite literally vaguely exciting. I've read it all but will have to go back over it again to savour some of the little cameos and nuances. Brilliant work. Telford Travelodge - very Alan Partridge is that  . And I never knew you were a closet mine hunter too  . Fi...

Good post  Some say that bikepacking is a nice way of "getting away from the real world", but a while ago I commented that it was in fact the complete opposite - bikepacking is the real world and what we come back to is the unreal one. Actually, I've just messed up my own aphorism t...
