Re: Light, but not on bars?
Anyone ever used something like this: https://www.rosebikes.co.uk/article/rixen--kaul-front-light-holder/aid:684703?channable=e8467.Njg0NzAz&gclid=CJbN2e2tvNECFawp0wodlnwMbQ ? The wire part of that looks very similar to the mount on B&M lights so will lift the light by about the same amount.

Re: Light, but not on bars?
Have you got mudguard mounts? Some of the german dynamo lights mount lower down but I think they use the mudguard mount My B&M dynamo light is fork crown mounted - I've always used the mudguard mount for this - on the previous bike I drilled a hole myself in the steel forks. It's quite "ta...

Hi Javi, I'd collected these links about cold weather riding. http://45nrth.com/blog/post/ask-jayp-part-1 http://45nrth.com/blog/post/ask-jayp-part-2 http://45nrth.com/blog/post/preparing-for-winter-riding http://45nrth.com/blog/post/cold-weather-riding-tips-by-jay-petervary http://www.canbike.org/b...

You could do either the south or north loop of the Settle Loop then go via Malham Tarn to get onto Mastiles Lane to get between Settle and Grassington. After Appletreewick there's a long climb up to the Grassington-Pateley Bridge road but if you cut right to Skyreholme here http://streetmap.co.uk/ma...

A Ravpower 21000mAh battery; a USB cable with a right-angled connector (so that it will fit into the socket on a Garmin Oregon and not foul the bike mount); some dynamo light cables which I don't actually now need as the light came with cables; a bar extender (bike not alcoholic) and a thermos flask...

Another advantage of leg warmers is that if you have to cross a stream then they are easy to remove and dry out, much harder and potentially more awkward with full length bibs.

A rigid 69er? (ooh! Err missus  ) I've done some of it including the bits that get talked about, namely Ben Alder and the Devil's Staircase. The last Km before Ben Alder cottage is probably the most frustrating as the track ends and you are traversing a peat bog. Depending how wet things have b...

Re: BareBones Fatfighters - The weigh in
Try not to be too disappointed. One off weights are not always to be relied on. A big cup of tea, needing a piss and not having taken a dump yet can account for a significant weight. Plus any clothing can differ a lot too Domestic weighing scales also have a limited accuracy but hopefully any error...

Hi (and belated Happy New Year). What do you guys wear from the waist down? For bike packing trips I mean. Proper Lycra "cycling shorts"? MTB Baggies? Something else? Lycra bib shorts. Then if it's wet (nasty wet) lightweight waterproof baggies over the top. If it's cold then either leg w...

Re: Bargain Alert Thread
Comfort/suitability/cost varies a lot with shorts - my most comfortable pair are a pair of Assos (dunno which model) that cost well over £100 but the next most comfortable are some DHB shorts that cost about £25. Whatever fits yer bum really.

A question, primarily aimed at Stu but if anyone else knows ... Glyndwr's Way to the NE of Llanbrynmair is shown as a BW on the maps when up on the ridge of Cerrig y Tan but becomes a footpath lower down. Does the BW stop or has the footpath been upgraded to BW status or do you head down/up the acce...

Geek central isn't it  What I find surprising is, even in relatively rural areas, just how few squares are left once you've ridden all the roads in the area. Add in the bridleways and there's very little left to leave for cheeky rides. I've got 3 instances of 8x8 Explorer scores, just got a fe...

I think I'd have tried following the fence a way to see if I could locate the power source (often a little solar battery unit thingy) and detached it rather than keep getting hit again and again (as funny as that was to watch). My thoughts as well. I've been tickled by a few electric fences over th...

I thought DoE expeditions were limited on the elevation they could go above (sadly a blunt application of H&S / risk assessment - lets not go there, hey  )? I seem to remember when something similar to this was first mooted there was a maximum elevation of 300m. We were living in N. Wales...

Re: 'Coddiwomple'
If each location had mobile coverage then you could have a code at each location. When the entrants find the first checkpoint they text the code to a central number and you just text the next grid ref back to them. Getting a GPX back to them could be tricky - they'd need a GPS/phone combo that would...

A B&M Secula Plus rear light for the commuter - it's dynamo powered so just need to wire it in. Of course the blurb said that the unit didn't come with any wiring so I've ordered that as well and that will be delivered on Weds along with some other kit. Guess what dropped out of the packaging?

Can anybody confirm the number of chapels to visit. I thought there was 8 but I appear to have marked just 7 on my map. I can't check the email as Virgin Mail seems to be down again! The Rig3.5 has lifters away from the central ridge line so is slightly more flexible in how you can pitch it. If you are only going to pitch as a ridge as shown in the shot of the DD tarp then no real difference.

It's really hard to do speed comparisons in the real world as there are so many variables that can affect the result. I did a comparison between standard 29er wheels/tyres and 650b+ wheels/tyres. I tried as much as possible to keep everything but the wheels the same including my heart rate (I was wi...
