Re: Not Another Winter Event (approx Feb, 2024)

168Km and gravel bike for me I reckon. Involves fords though, so water levels will need to drop to avoid some extreme pack raft type shenanigans.

Start Cockermouth. Not too much above 400m. Off road, road, whatever. Don't go too large - I'd forgotten I'm doing winter Jennride, but will try to shoehorn this in.

Messaged you Shaf.
lets see how kind he is
All (nearly) rideable on 25mm slicks. Shorter than you suggested (depending on route choice). 8 points sound OK? Looking back over previous threads, one suggests 10 and another 6.

Marvellous
Timmy Taylor's? Nice. It's a 'happy memory' beer from my youth, along with Theakston's XB and Coniston Bluebird.

Re: Exposure Joystuck

I've had a similar issue with a Shimano Di2 junction box. Water ingress due to me not replacing a blanking plug in a spare port. I'd say, annoying as it is, the half price deal is a pretty good one. I guess the warranty has to take into account those who will buy one and use it twice a day all year,...

Re: A wee whisky appreciation thread.

One that I've had recommended to me is Dalwhinnie. Yep, enjoyed in the past. I remember it as being somewhere between a Speyside and Talisker style Highland, which I guess makes sense geographically. Sainsbury's own TTD brand Highland single malt isn't far off a standard Talisker to be fair. The Sa...

Re: Torino-Nice Rally logistics - tips?

Sorting the bike for a flight from Nice is easy. Ride to the airport along the seafront cycleways. Head for the furthest terminal building and you can buy a flat pack box for £30ish. A rip off for cardboard, I know, but they give you tape with it, so you can ride in, and have your bike packed in an ...

Re: New Map Time

PM me a location near you and I’ll make you a sample. I’m debating not putting all the ITT routes on as in some places they look really crap due to overlap. I may even leave them off altogether I found them distracting previously, and routes get altered. I'd leave them off, as folk generally import...

I was looking at Ledaig tonight - 60% though 😵‍💫.
Bowmore - good call. Never had a bottle, but have enjoyed samples.
The variety and subtleties of different ages/finishes is intriguing. It's a bit like cheese 😆 《wanders off to the fridge》

Re: Dales Divide whilst fasting!!

The only way I could see it working would be to wake at 4am and eat, start day 1 and ride 'til you fall, sleep 'til dark and then eat and go until you flop. This would cause a few problems: You'd be trying to sleep during daylight You'd be at your post feed freshest while it's dark and harder to rid...

A wee whisky appreciation thread.

Christmas was good to me on the whisky front and it's awakened my appreciation of the wicked spirit. I'm not aware of a whisky thread, so thought I'd cast about for fellow dram drinkers opinions. Santa brought me three bottles, bless him: Old Pulteney 12yr, Bunnahabhain 12 yr and a Hearach (first bo...

Re: How much grief can I expect?

I've had two Transporters: 2009-2017 was a 2.5 130BHP 6 speed which was lovely to drive, but had (now) known faults with engine and oil/water pumps. It cost me probably £2.5K in fixes, but I covered over 100K miles in it and loved it. 2017-now is a T6, but very early with EU5 engine, 5 speed 102BHP....

The word isn't too dissimilar to the Welsh for cave (ogofâu) is it? Both Celtic/Brythonic whatever languages. I was just reading about the rapid decline in the Cornish language, after the Prayer Book Rebellion in 16th century. Bloomin religious zealots..... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prayer_Boo...

How did you travel there Rich - flight to Venice? And how many days riding?

Valerio - have you started looking at logistics? Looks like flight or train to Venice Treviso is then rideable to start/finish would work?
