Bearstock: Roundup of the Tussock Racing World Championship

In case you missed it and many of you did, I've written a post about the Tussock Racing World Championship, highlight of Bearstock. I don't know everyone's name and I'd like to add in a list of competitors, so if you were in the championship and would like your name mentioned, please let me know who...

Re: Recommendations for travel garments (merino, bamboo, ect)

RIP Faraway's nettles sound interesting. There's loads in the field down the road so I might have a go at MYO. Must take a fair while to sew each leaf together though. Therapeutic probably.

Re: Recommendations for travel garments (merino, bamboo, ect)

I like merino wool garments best but their durability is poor compared to synthetics. I have holes in the elbows of my wool hoody, but that's probably because I wear it all the time. The finer t-shirts get snagged in brambles and thorns and tend to get a bit holey, but I have been wearing the same p...

There isn't much in the way of free or cheap parking in Winch, however if you drive towards All Saints church near St Catherine's road (residential area near the start of the SDW, you should be able to find a free spot. Enjoy your ride.

Midges aren't too bad this year, I had a couple have a go at my arm this morning but certainly not swarms like some years ... I'll stick my neck on the line and say, headnets not required.

Re: What size Drybag is in your front harness?

13 L dry bags using Wildcat harnesses. Because I travel with my partner, we have a split setup. In one we have: Helsport Ringstind 2 Tent (sometimes we carry bivvy bags and a tarp) 2 x Exped Synmat Sleeping mats Montane Down Jacket In the other: Both sleeping bags, yes that’s right, I carry some of ...

Re: Bearstock - Thanks

I'd like to echo all the thanks and gratitude posted here for Dee and Stuart. We took the easy llama route to a place beginning with the letter 'M' that ends with the sound of 'lith' for the ride home. I'll look up the spelling later as I'm too embarrassed by my pronunciation. Thanks also to Graham ...

Re: Taking your bike on the train

Depends on the company and the times of travel. Southwest trains are usually okay except there can be a few too many bikes so the journey is spent juggling bikes. Dan's Genesis doesn't fit into the bike space so causes a bit of a jam. If there are disruptions and the trains have replacement buses, y...

Maybe because my stuff is smaller or perhaps, I'm a bit more determined. As for the sandwiches, Dan ate the lot - he made a fatal error of putting mayonnaise AND chutney together! :o

I used to 'ram the cables back until I had chafe on one of the hoses and had to replace so I had new hoses made to fit around the outside of the handlebar set up.

Re: Riding in Dorset - Route advice

Just back from a few days in Dorset as Jurassic Pusher said, some bridleways are best for horses or walkers. Hilly, muddy, and there's almost nobody around. Great fun even if it's a helluva slog at times. Haven't looked at the numbers yet, but I'd guess in the region of 80 miles, with about 10 of th...

If you want to put a sleeping mat inside your bivvy bag, the XL model is bigger and should work. I can’t say for sure because I haven’t tried that yet. This definitely works  I'm 5'10" (like you I appear to have shrunk as I'm sure I used to be 6'0" - I blame global warming and subse...
