Re: Badlands 2020 Racing in a time of Covid
Great write up, inspired to ride this someday. Definitely agree on bike choice! I do love Granada, and Spain for that matter. Sad to be reminded about the plastic grow huts. I remember that Simon Reeves docu.

Re: BB200 2020
I couldn't agree more with all that Whitestone! Though, I am also in agreement with Steve that it's disappointing to see ROW gates permanently locked. I can understand the lack of incentive to maintain ROW which are not often used, but is that because they've been superceded with a better ROW or bec...

Re: BB200 2020
So, I had a bit of a run in with a farmer on Friday on the 300 route (shared with the 200 in this area). I accidentally carried on the track and into the farmyard, where I was met with "WTF do you think you're doing" shouted from the other end of the barns. We had a bit of an exchange, an...

The bike and kit were all great, but my arse is feeling pretty broken today!
Probably due a chain swap though before I ruin another cassette.

Re: My BB200 2020 (may contain spoilers).
Hi all, I finished the BB300 yesterday at 15:50 having set off at 7:15 on Saturday from Kington. So it took me 32:34 hours including a 4 hour bivy just before Monaughty and a breakfast stop in Knighton. My moving time was 24:40. For comparison, last year I finished the BB300 in 25:07 (22:54 moving t...

Re: BB200 2020
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-54069466 Thoughts on implications for an attempt this weekend? I'd be travelling from Oxfordshire, starting from Kington, England, then crossing into Wales via that much discussed Cussop Dingle ford / mythical footpath bridge. Planning to carry a lot of food, but...

Re: Ergon saddles experiences?
I have tried two Ergon saddles, the older SMC3 Pro and the newer SMC4 Sport. I've found the SMC4 Sport more comfy, but it depends on whether you like padding in your shorts or your saddle. I've recently been riding without bibs more often (just using "Comfy Balls" pants) so the gel saddle ...

Re: Front mudhuggers??
Big fan of the Mudhugger front and rear. I've been wanting to try adding a second front hugger on the rear between the tyre and seat tube. Saw few examples of FS riders doing that to protect pivot bearings, etc.

Re: Food and Drink intake - what's yours like?
@Steve - I am glad you started this thread. I have always had trouble eating in endurance events, particularly as time goes on, so I am keen to learn from others and have a bit more of a nutrition plan next time. I like Karl's 7k cal plan. I've never actually done a calorie counted nutrition plan a...

Nice one Lars. I'd seen your activity since I stalk, err, follow you. Where's the shot of the river crossing? Thanks! The river crossing is Afon Hengwym just before the disused Maesnant hostel and the Nat-Y-Moch Reservoir. The same section featured on last year's route, but it was too deep so we ha...

Re: Bb200 Waffle Thread.
Wow, that was a tough one. I can barely walk or eat today. Up until Barmouth, it was primarily Type 1 with well balanced mix of terrain with fantastic descents. I managed to make it to the SPAR in Penrhyndeudraeth by 22:30. Then it was up to the quarry for some HAB. My legs began to object on the fi...

Re: Bb200 Waffle Thread.
Seriously though, while 2014 was the toughest year.... 2014 was worse than 2018?? 2014 was my first ever long distance ride. What a baptism by fire that was. Weather was mostly clear, but quite cold at night with nightmarish bog trots. My blog post here . 2018 was certainly wet and windy, b...

Re: Tyre Damage
Nothing specific, just a medium size sewing needle. Put the thread through to make a long enough loop to complete the job with same excess to make it easier to finish off. Start on the inside of the tyre and do an initial out and back to tuck through the loop so your not relying on the bulk of the k...

A bit late to this thread, but I am pleased the consensus has leaned north! I've definitely done less riding up that way, so it should be a nice change! ::gulp::

Re: Tyre Damage
Don't take it personally Lars (you had just that handy) but it seems odd to me how many bikepackers and even more so, hikers believe in dental floss to sew things up when sewing thread is available and perfectly suitable. I've used normal thread, fishing line and dental floss. All have worked fine....
