Re: Todays ride

First ride of the year to work. Gorgeous sunny day with a heavy frost on the ground. Roads quiet as schools still off. Hopefully all days will be like this!!

Re: Bivvy a month 2019

My son Fraser (11) and I have set out to take part in BaM 2019. Have successfully completed January and February so far. Not much time left to bag March. January BaM was to Greensykes bothy. Rode in from Eskdalemuir following Ray Young's Borders 220 route. February BaM was to Abyssinia bothy in the...

Re: How to insert pictures

Have spent the last hour trying to upload 1 pic from Google Photos as a test but without success. The patience of my wife has worn thin and told me to stop. If anyone feels inclined to write some form of instruction for a complete idiot, please feel free. Otherwise I'm with Mbnut, I'll stick to rid...

Re: Bivvy a month 2019

Well done Joe and Borderer. Looks like a "fun" trip. Fraser and I still to fit in our March trip. I got floored with a bad back so it will be late in the month before we get out...hopefully. Enjoyed your Gelder Shiel trail report. Had heard it is a good spot. Has gone on Fraser's ever grow...

Re: Route advice aviemore to glasgow

A lower level option between Laggan and Glen Lyon would be the old HT550 route from Laggan to Corrour then the Road to the Isles to Rannoch station, down the road to Bridge of Gaur to pick up the current HT550 route. (this might be the An Turas Mor route that Alan mentions) You're right. After the ...

From Laggan you could follow An Turas Mor backwards which would take you to the West end of Glasgow.

2/2. Rode in to Abyssinia bothy last night with Fraser (11). Went for a ride to Loch Sloy then the back of Ben Vane. A bit wet and miserable but had a good ride. Abyssinia bothy was only opened in 2017 and is a great wee place situated in the Arrochar Alps. Always loved going to the area since I wa...

Re: Bivvy a month 2019

Thanks that's nice to hear. How old is your boy? Mine has been to ten bothies now but greensykes is still his (and my) favourite. He is 11. Greensykes was his 3rd bothy. Ruigh Aichean is his favourite. He's keen to try more bothies and wild camping this year. I'm glad he still wants to hang out wit...

1/1. Rode with my son from Eskdalemuir to Greensykes bothy following Ray Young's Borders 220 route. Bothy was rammed. Rode back to Eskdalemuir today under blue skies. Caught up with Blair512 and family at bothy. Great start to our BaM campaign. Someone has posted on FB that they left their camera a...

Re: Eskdalemuir/Craik Forest

I had a wee trip there last weekend with macskive, out to Dryfehead bothy. We parked near Samye Ling and rode in from there. Bags dropped at the bothy, then did a quick gravel loop with no bags. There is some lovely gravel riding there. Nothing in the slightest bit technical but good to get some mi...

New to veloviewer this year. Have reached 6 x 6. Only a couple of tiles away from 7 x 7. We collect tiles cycling, hillwalking, running and orienteering. Good fun.

Re: Scottish Winter Bivvy.

Alan - I’m sure we can make the logistics work if you want to start from Kingussie or Newtonmore, or shuttle as close to the bothy as possible. Yep - it's an easy 8km from the Glen to the bothy via the shortest route - most of that on tarmac. Thanks for the kind thoughts Alasdair and Colin. We've h...

Folks, I'm calling off too. Don't think taking an 11 year old out in the conditions forecast would be a good idea. We'll definitely be joining you in better conditions. Enjoy the weekend.

Re: Scottish Winter Bivvy.

FWIW my plan is to give junior his tea in Newtonmore/Kingussie then get a snack when we get to the bothy. Saves his old dad carrying loads of grub :-bd . We will probably ride the bikepath from Newtonmore to Kingussie. Happy to meet up in either location.

I'm going to make my own way up I think Alasdair, I'm Fife bound on the Sunday so it'll save me getting on a train full of Christmas market goers! What time are we thinking for meeting up? Your choice, I can pick you up en route and drop you in the kingdom on the Sunday if that’s any easier for you...

Re: Scottish Winter Bivvy.

My only thought was the bit after Newtonmore - Colin have you done this? Depending on how the pub goes we could just cut straight up to the Bothy via the wee dead end road alongside the A9 You mean skip the bit between Newtonmore & Kingussie? Happy to go along with that if it's a rubbish bit of...
