Re: What you doing next year?

Fraser and I have unfinished business with BaMs. Got 9/12 this year for a 1st attempt so we'll make a push for 12/12.

As we live in Glasgow, we're at the start of An Turas Mor and 2nd City Divide. Planning to make a start on both routes breaking it down to 1 or 2 day chunks at a time.

Re: Winter bivvy, Scotland

There is a carpark just to the south of Samye Ling, but that is for the temple only - you can't park there. About a quarter of a mile south of that is a small carpark (ten cars maybe) opposite the tea rooms that is free and you can park there overnight. Sounds like the same place I'm talking about. .

Re: Winter bivvy, Scotland

When we went to Greensykes in January, we parked in Eskdalemuir. There is a small car park opposite a modern cafe/visitor centre. The folks that run the place were happy for us to park there. The cafe did a good Sunday lunch.

I know Bob - hoping the Scottish lot might turn up though ;-P
We're planning to ride in from Eskdalemuir following Borderers route. We'd be planning to ride in during daylight.

Re: Bivvy a month 2019

Unfortunately Fraser and I are out of the running. October has been a busy month and tonight was to be our BaM no10 for 2019. Had to keep Fraser off school today through illness. A pity as we've got close to our 12 BaMs. These things happen. We've agreed we'll be back for 2020. We've had some great ...

Re: Bivvy a month 2019

Yes I saw that and thought how funny it would have been if we had bumped into each other  We had an arrangement to visit friends in Dalgety Bay on Saturday evening which was why I thought of the Fife Coastal path. I know Blair from here has ridden some of it, but I couldn't find an account of ...

Re: Bivvy a month 2019

Friday and Saturday were rare September days of stunning weather here. Friday it was 22C and the sun was blazing, so you can imagine how thrilled I was that we wasted THE WHOLE DAY searching for my debit card which the boy had mislaid. I had planned a trip to try some of the Fife Coastal pat...

9/9 for Fraser and I. We were joined by my other son Lewis on his 1st wild camp trip. Fraser had an MTB race in Dundee today. We grabbed a trip to Tentsmuir Forest in Fife. Found a great sheltered spot amongst the dunes not far from the shore.

8/8 for Fraser and I. My youngest son Lewis (9) decided he wanted to join us on our bothy trip. Lewis doesn't ride a bike but prefers to walk. Looked at Gameshope and Abyssinia but didn't fancy the burn crossing with 2 kids. Instead we went back to our wee shelters at Whitelee forest for a quick hit...

Thanks for posting. That's another location added to Fraser's list. It would be a good one for little legs alright. About 40km round trip. Samye ling is also a fantastic place for young minds. Re: Glasgow based route ideas

You could try the first part of Markus Stitz's Wild About Argyll. Train or ride from Glasgow to start in Helensburgh. Ride as far as Dunoon then ferry over the Clyde then ride or train back to city. Alternatively the start of 2nd City Divide from city centre as far as Lanark then train back. Don't f...

6/6 for Fraser and I. Went up to Whitelee Windfarm and bivvied at the shelters at the MTB trail. My youngest son Lewis (8) joined us for his 1st trip away. Lewis got picked up by Mum and Fraser and I rode home the long way through the windfarm picking up some tiles.
