Which bike lock

I'm looking for suggestions for a light weight lock to take on trips.

What do folks use & would you recommend them?

I've seen the ottolock tape style ones, but have no idea if they're any good.

Re: What you done t' your bike today

I've finally finished rebuilding my Cotic Escapade. Originally I had it built up with a Camagnolo Centaur Red Black groupset & Hope V Twin hydro disks. The problem with that setup was the lack of available gear ratios which meant that using it for bikepacking with the extra weight was an issue. ...

Sunrace 11-42 cassette & QR endcaps for my rear hub arrived today.

So I could finish the rebuild.

Re: The post man's been ...

This week the posman has delivered: Smart Sam 700x42c (That it has been confirmed DOES fit in the Escapade frame; so another has been ordered  ) Hope 11 speed Shimano freehub body to replace the Campag one that came off to enable the convertion to a SRAM 1x setup. 11 Speed chain (see above) Ho...

Re: So: why are racks & panners out of fashion?

I can't believe how fantastic the response has been; thanks folks. Everyone has clearly put a lot of thought into the setup they prefer. It's also apparent that bikepacking means different things to different people. The conclusion I've drawn from reading everyones replies is that there is no 'right...

Good to see a Solaris being used for bikepacking, as that's what I have!

Re: So: why are racks & panners out of fashion?

Thanks for all the replies people. From what folks have said, it sounds very much like the type of terrain & length of trip influence the choice of kit. The increased popularity of 'off road' trips has seen a move towards soft packs which allow a slimline profile & reduced weight. I guess th...

Re: So: why are racks & panners out of fashion?

That's all good stuff- thanks. Like I said; I'm not a defender of one option or the other, I am just interested to learn why people mover away from using racks & panniers. It does seem to me that using seat packs & handle bar bags moves the weight of the load up. Do people find that this has...

So: why are racks & panners out of fashion?

Not that I'm complaining; I'm just interested. I'm a complete novice when it comes to bikepacking I've been into cycling of one kind or another for most of my life & have done a lot of wild camping too, but never combined the two until now for some reason. What has struck me is that everywhere I...

Re: Hydro brakes for drops

Sorry, I've only just joined the forum. If I'd have clocked your post before I put them on the bay, I'd have dropped you a nod. The purpose of the post wasn't really ot try to sell my old stuff, more to make you aware of the existance of the V Twin. One thing I would say about them though; be...

Re: Hydro brakes for drops

I have some Hope V Twins up for sale on ebay as we speak. Similar idea to the Giant setup, but ...Hope. The 'V Twin" master cylinders attach via the steerer & sit under the stem. THe cables from the brakes enter via the two silver do-dads at the front. They are fantastic brakes, I was runni...

Re: Med Sonder Santiago frame and fork.

I don't suppose you would be interseted in a trade for a Medium Cotic Escapade frame & fork with hope headset & seat clamp would you? I've been trying to work out the best way to carry packs on it, but your frame would be ideal (and solve several problems.). I know it's a long shot; but you ...
