Re: Which Munros are Good to Cycle over?

Personally, too many stray into "spoiling a good walk by taking a bike" for me to bother. That's what I'm hoping to avoid. There was an article in a mountain biking magazine (probably about 30 years ago now) about a guy who did them all on, or at least with, a mountain bike. I couldn't se...

Which Munros are Good to Cycle over?

I've recently started the Munros, and I'm wondering which of then make good bike rides, either as a day ride or a bikepacking trip. I don't mind a bit of hike a bike, but If I'm biking it, I'd like to be cycling at least most of the time.

Cheers, Michael.

Re: Completing the holy trinity of sleep success

For most of the year I use a Thermarest Uberlite Large, and always sleep well. I've used it standalone on frosty nights, with the caveat that the ground wasn't frozen when I set up camp, and I'm a warm sleeper. I've used it on frozen ground, but backed it it with a very this piece of CCF pad, which ...

Re: MSR Trailshot

I've used a Sawyer Squeeze and a Micro, and they both quickly suffered from low flow rates, despite regular back flushing. I switched to a HydroBlu Versa Flow and that's been much better. The problems filling the bag went away when I replaced the stock bag with a Cnoc Vecto, and I always carry a foi...

Re: From Sea to Mountain - Locations?

Asturias is home to the terrifying Alto L'angrilu which is rated as one of the hardest climbs in road cycling. Some may remember an eventful day we had on the 2017 Vuelta where we turned from humble spectators to having Chris Froome have his doping test done in our camper van having just won the ra...

Re: From Sea to Mountain - Locations?

The Basque coast to the west of there has some proper big bastard mountains, would be an interesting few days' ride to head across to Gijon or Oviedo stoping at a few a of the quieter coastal towns and heading up into the mountains. I went on holiday to Asturias a few years ago, and it's stunning. ...

Re: Off topic: Kenny Rogers?

We had a Bedouin driver when I worked in Jordan who was a massive Kenny Rogers fan. I was definitely very odd being driven across the desert accompanied by The Gambler, Coward of the County etc, by a bloke in traditional dress and a pair of Oakleys.

Re: From Sea to Mountain - Locations?

Ravenglass to Eskdale is a nice ride, and you can do lots of it off road. You could then cross over to Wasdale via Burnmoor Tarn and back to the sea along minor roads.

Re: Suggestions for a budget bike packing bike

I use my Voodoo Bizango for bikepacking, as well as normal mountain biking. I was going to upgrade last year, but I like it so much I haven't bothered.

Here it is in action:

Re: Wanted, A Carradice Style Saddlebag in Modern Materials.

Thanks Tom. I'd seen that, but unfortunately it's the canvas version, and I have a real aversion to international orange. I think it stems from when I was on primary school trips to the Lakes and they made us wear the waterproofs provided by the outdoor centre we were visiting. You could probably se...

Will pay more attention to the Outdrys next time I see them on sale though. Looked up a review and 380g or so seems pretty good. Packable or bulky?
Very packable, even more so than Goretex Paclite.

I use a rack with mine, and it's been great. It hasn't been used on any serious off road though, mainly for the reason mentioned above that I wouldn't be able to lean back behind the saddle. It's my favourite bit of luggage as it's so easy to pack and find things in there. https://live.staticflickr....

I bought a kit from Ebay ages ago and loads of my kit sprouted press studs. I then made the same mistake with an eyelet kit. I've got some of the best ventilated hats in England.

Cautley Spout freezes up once in a blue moon and is a good ice climb. Further up the beck behind the fall is an old sheep fank that's been done up by Andy Holdsworthy as one of his art installations. Not too hard to get to from The Calf - head down the first drop heading towards Sedbergh then turn ...

I still can't believe that I've ignored the area for years, especially having driven past it literally hundreds of times.
