Re: HT550 2020 route GPX?
The one definite change to the 2020 route that I sent to the group starters is that after Ullapool it will take the usual turn for Croftown and use estate tracks to get to the start of the new section along the Auchindrean Path by the river. This avoids about 4km on the main road. Excellent - that'...

Re: HT550 2020 route GPX?
Does this involve the road out of Ullapool? I knew there was a change coming here for this year but the detail of it was a little different to what I had expected.

Looks like there's an entry "fee" this year of a £50 donation to the John Muir Trust.

Re: Off road ITT purely by written directions?
Road routes are quite easy to write directions for: they have obvious junctions and most of them have signposts. You just need a list like: "At the next junction, follow signs for London" "After 10 miles, take the left signed Edinburgh" etc etc etc You can't do that for off road ...

There's the East Highland Way from Fort William to Aviemore http://www.easthighlandway.com/ From Aviemore you can continue along either the Speyside Way to Spey Bay or the Dava Way to Forres then on to Inverness via the Moray Coastal Trail or just head straight for Inverness on NCR7 from Aviemore. I...

Nice writeup. You got a great weekend for it. I came over Ryvoan pass in the direction of Glenmore and at the green loch around 15:45 so I must have been close to passing you. Looking at the network analysis I get "net::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID" which suggests that my Chrome setup can'...

I really am thinking that if Lael can make a film and win / do very well while doing it ..... that's what's upsetting people. I understand that contact with loved ones may be an advantage but If she's not receiving anything physical, then filming looks like a disadvantage to me? Even if the film cr...

Re: "Wild" camping "legalised" in England and Wales - pilot scheme
It seems their definition of "Wild camping" is a campsite without any of the usual facilities?
You still need to book and pay for your pitch. Not really what I'd consider "Wild camping".

Re: Highland Trail 2019
The speed of the ping is my worry -from memory, 7.8mph is not the speed I'd expect on that part of the trail. The last ping before that was 18.6 miles back. The 7.8mph is the average speed over those 18.6 miles. The important bit for me is that the next point shows a significant drop in speed (down...

Re: Highland Trail 2019
Hope Jenny is ok. It seems a little worrying after all that to-ing and fro-ing last night and now she hasn't pinged for 9 and half hours. I was wondering if the dithering last night was her trying to decide whether to bail out to Poolewe or stay on the trail. Maybe a mechanical or a minor injury? I...

They are asking about Mike Sheldrake on barebones forum – can someone let them know he has posted on instagram, looks like he is going to decide at Ullapool whether to scratch or not (I’m not registered there). https://www.instagram.com/p/ByAKDiJFybm/ Looks like he has sorted his tracker now, too. ...

Isn't that him excluded then? I seem to remember Alan G excluding himself for similar action a few years ago. Possibly different in that he borrowed from a random cyclist, not a HT rider? Any ITTer could have had the same luck and James hasn't had any benefit from being in the group start compared ...

You only appear on the scratch list and have the dot removed from the map once you've told Greg you're scratching.

Last update from James is that he's seeing what he can get in Ullapool else a bus too and from Inverness will be quicker than an online order. He'll get DQ'd for doing that. Rob Waller did the same thing in 2015 (train from Achnashellach to Inverness and back to buy brake pads) and got a DQ for it....
