Good to see the valve and tyre logo correctly positioned. It's the small details that make the difference.

Daft question (never stopped me in the past!), if your free time starts in May, why not set off earlier? I like your thinking but wifey might not be too keen. Sadly the outside of the house needs painting plus there's list of other humdrum jobs she's dreamt up, I'll plan on a late July departure fr...

Thanks for all the replies, it's very much appreciated. I'm already in possession of maps and a copy of Bear Attacks, so I suppose it's pretty much a done deal.

Is this a thick idea?

Last year the company I work for was going through merger negotiations, the merger agreement was signed at the beginning of November. Morale was quite low and training of any sort dropped off to a trickle. I've had no work to do since the agreement was signed other than to sit tight and wait for red...

Just checked the Singletrack thread and looks like someone has mailed you, fingers crossed it's good news. I've got my consultation meeting at 1.30pm today, I'll definitely be out of a job it's just a matter of how soon. The good news is I've been there for 17 years and the package is quite healthy....

For my adventure/gravel/cx bike I have a Cannondale CAADX. Brakes have been swapped for TRP calipers and tyres changed to Clement Xplor 40mm. It all works well is a decent ride.

Re: Help the [middle] aged...

What's wrong with the gearing? I see that as a glorified crosser and fitting a compact to CX bike is the norm these days although with a smaller outer. What would you people have done in the good old days before compacts were invented? You ran either a 38 or 39 inner depending if you had a Shimano o...

Re: BareBones Fatfighters - The weigh in

Fat and protein are great for satiety, carbs not so much. Plus, if they're properly fat metabolism adapted (which they should be after this many weeks) then their body will naturally be happier working with its in-built energy stores. I found the same with intermittent fasting. I can easily go 24 h...

Re: New 26er Frame?

I like the sound of this, I take it I'd have to drill the old one out? And then do I end up with a bit floating around inside the frame? There might be a bit of swarf left inside the frame, I've done a couple and haven't noticed any rattling. If the boss is turning inside the frame you'll need to h...

I was looking at Amanda Coker's rides, she's currently 6520 miles ahead of the mens record at the moment. If she can keep going at her current rate she'll be over 84,000 miles at the end of the year. 75 days left. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1J7Vgt7u4KC9bY1Lr4xOyd4VLkzQxi0c8ErqyFqBvnHk/ed...

Re the bottle cage bolt: what you need is a rivnut. It basically a pop rivet with a threaded insert, the insert tool looks like a pop rivet gun. You'll pick one up on Ebay with a pile of rivnuts for around a tenner. If you're near Bishops Stortford you've welcome to come round and I'll fix it for fr...

Re: rodies beeing soft about disks again

Friend of mine (Daniel Schnider) sees the problem elsewhere with rims and disc brakes. He stated that rim brakes on carbon rims have a lag until they bite. Even more so when wet. Discs decelerate immediately and have very little lag when wet (and on a rubbish compound). So here's his point. Your di...

Re: What's the go-to quilt then..

When I was buying my quilt there seemed to be question mark over the suitability of Cumulus quilts for 6' tall people. I asked the question on here and got replies from people saying I'm 5' 8" and it's great. In the end I went for Enlightened Equipment.
