Re: Fork life.

I've got a Scott CR1. It's the original 2003, it had a year of race use when I bought it as a frameset in 2004. I put Campag Chorus 10 speed stuff on it and have used it extensively ever since. It's now a 19 year old, 900 gram carbon frameset with an extensive amount of use and I haven't died yet. I...

I still haven't changed my opinion that Jones bars are useless on anything other than a Jones.
i have to disagree. the whole notion of jones building a bike around the bars dont make sense to me.
He made the bars to match the bike.

Mix up a strong solution with washing up liquid and water then use a paint brush to apply it around the tyre bead. Works for me every time.

Cheers. I found some Youtube stuff on Backcountry Navigator then vanished down the Youtube rabbit hole for a few hours, I came across OSMAnd which looks good too. I've ordered an Android tablet so wish me luck.

Can I create a GPX route on an Android tablet offline?

I currently use my laptop for creating GPX routes using Garmin Basecamp with either OS or Open MTB maps. If I were to swap to an Android tablet does anyone know of an app or apps I can use to do the same job. The biggie is I must be able to do it without an Internet connection.

Re: Wheel Rims - Again

I'm just building some wheels with DT Swiss XM421 rims. These look to be a decent replacement for Arch MK3's, they're building nicely, I have yet to ride them. I got the rims from Westbrook Cycles, they came with DT's Squorx nipples and washers in the box but I've decided to use old fashioned brass ...

Don't often hear 'moped' and 'gang' in the same sentence do you? In "news world" a moped is the same as a scooter, these mopeds are probably 500cc Yamaha TMAX's or similar. Whatever, it's stolen scoots ridden by peeps with big machetes that are too young and stupid to be afraid to use the...

Re: Surly Krampus 29+ or similar?

I've got a 29+ front wheel I use on my Jones from time to time but it's big, a 650b+ at both ends would be the same size ish as a normal 29er, but then 26+ is also a thing, not full fat just 26x3, that could be fun too.

You've got your Campagnolo compatible rear wheel so it's reasonable to assume you're going to use a Campagnolo cassette and rear mech, which means a Campagnolo shifter. The question I have is, what about brakes?

I have C17 Carved on everything with a B17 Imperial for best. I rode the Divide on the B17 but only really use it in the summer. I gave up wearing padded shorts, the Brooks are comfy in normal underwear. For me at least, best saddles ever.

It would be hilarious to watch tomorrow afternoon, if the apocalyptic rain arrived earlier than predicted... It should be good fun to watch without the rain. Whilst Kings Forest is peppered with gravel tracks and about as flat as things get, it's also very, very sandy. The fastest thing around that...

Apparently it's the British Gravel Championships this weekend. A mate just sent me a couple of pics of people riding around Kings Forest outside Thetford.

Re: GRRR. Cracked rim again

Find a new wheel builder. There are very specific spoke tension figures which, if not adhered to, will cause the rim to crack. If you're building them yourself then invest in a spoke tension gauge. IMO the only reason they crack is cack handed building in the first place. I've got 2 pairs of Arch MK...
