Re: How long does a drivetrain last ??
I tend to just run a 1*10 system until one chain is dead, and then swap in a new chain then run the whole lot into the ground, rather than messing about with changing chains too often. Commuting bike is at about 6000km so far, and going strong. Mountain bikes are tinkered with too often to really te...

There's a few on eBay, I've been vaguely thinking of getting one for a while, but am currently happy with 2 moon lights. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/363933243450?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=ewkgxrestpm&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=6aA4BdCZSXy&var=&widget_ver=arte...

Have a hunt on eBay for Vittoria tyres, non-tubeless bomboloni and canolli ones are about £30 each, tubeless not much more from sports_and_leisure
https://sportandleisure.com/search?q=Vittoria+
Or there on the website, but eBay is generally cheaper and comes from the same shop...

Re: What do you cook and what on when out bikepacking
My go-to is a couscous pack, made up by pouring water (boiled over a bearbones 12g stove in a cheapo stainless steel much from Tkmaxx) into the pack. If I remember to bring one, then a peperami torn or chopped into it finishes of the gourmet treat. A full malt loaf, eaten from the pack, is an excell...

Re: Engineering calcs please.
I see your point, but not sure that's directly related to stiffness. The thicker branch will see a much wider range of strains across its cross section when being bent (being compressed on the inside of the bend, just bent in the centre and stretched on the outside). Imagine a zero thickness pole - ...

In a similar, but less Sunak related, vein I've just finished a delicious can of Madagaska vanilla stout. Brewer is donkeystone brewery, who I've never heard of, but it was on offer for a bargain £1.79 for a 440ml can in Lidl so I had to buy a couple!

Re: Engineering calcs please.
I'll pop the numbers into a table at some point, but the basic ratios are as follows... All assume a 1mm wall thickness, and are looking at deflection for a given load rather than failure, although the ratio should be the same anyway. For every 1mm deflection of a dia10 pole, a dia9 would deflect by...

Re: Engineering calcs please.
No problem. How fussy are you about exact values, or are you more interested in comparison between the 3 sizes? As otherwise pre-shaping of the pole in the case of most tents, or the stress caused by bending it into an arc while putting the tent up make things a bit trickier. I guess the next step i...

Re: Engineering calcs please.
Do you want to know about strength in bending or compression? And obviously the weight of the pole increases with diameter... Stiffness in bending is (as far as my just about to go to bed brain recalls) proportional to outside diameter cubed given a constant wall thickness. This then goes down the o...

All scrapes are in the bottom 135mm of the post.
No real idea what's a reasonable price. Is £35 posted sensible sounding?

If you don't mind cheapo, and shopping at sports direct, the 3 velcro strap muddy fox ones are wide - I've pretty wide feet and tend to wear wide fit shoes or barefoot style trainers and they were grand. Now on Shimano shoes, I can't remember the model but they are very orange... And not massively w...

Very much on the sleek, roadie style clothing, but there is up to 70% off sportfull gear at saddleback cycles. I just bought one of their fiandre light jackets (shower proof/windproof softshell) and wore it for the first time for the commute today. Rainy on the way home, and I was so impressed with ...

Karrimor/KIMM did one years back, before they were bought out and turned crappy.... I think my wife has a barely worn men's small one in the wardrobe, I can measure it and ask if she still wants it if you like?
