Re: Today's Run

Saturday's run, not today's, but there we go... Teenager with Altitude race in the lakes. Shitty weather all the way there, to the point where we nearly turned round on the M6 and then were strongly tempted by the pencil museum in Keswick! Realized that we should toughen up, so (as all 4 in the car ...

Re: What you done t' your bike today

Tuesday's job, rather than today's, but I ended up doing a high speed rim replacement and coincidental brake pad change. Heard a strange metallic clang on the ride home and thought I'd broken a spoke. Stopped for a look and turned out I'd ripped one spoke & eyelet out of the rim. Limped it home ...

Re: Raised Reversed Stem

Isn't it just an azonic zero stem, remade for the 2020s? They were high rise, zero length and absolutely terrifying on an old, short jump bike or (as my mate Roddy had) a GT LTS ds with a weird very laid back seat tube..

I've a Patagonia nanopuff which is ideal for this sort of use. It wasn't cheap, but is still going (although starting to wear out now) after 10+ years

Re: Boot repairs - glue

Another in favour of shoe goo here, I've always got a tube on the go as I tent to split the sides of my fell running shoes and my son scuffs his heels so plenty of patch jobs needed. Not sure it there's anything in this, but I think the black version is more hardwearing/flexible than the clear

It's on charge now, and once the parents have gone home this afternoon it'll be fitted... Hopefully out for a test ride before dark... I'll try to get photos of the assembly and update on progress. I'm not sure it's much cheaper than a basic ebike, but Jen really likes her existing bike fit so hope...

According to the text from my neighbour, postie brought a giant box with a wheel and more... So should be the swytch kit for my wife's bike. Fingers crossed, as she wants to get riding again but could do with a bit of electrical help in order to manage our hills

Thanks James, I'll fire that at some of my Y12 students! I was thinking pretty much the same thing... Now I just need to find a CFD add-in for Autodesk Inventor so they can do some modelling of the airflow... EDIT... Ooooh, there's a 2023 package that does just that! Re: Roadie physics article

They are talking about road riding though, and there are some valid points made about percentage changes of weigh... That 1kg isn't much more than 1% of the combined rider/bike/kit system. Given that F=ma is a linear relationship that's roughly a linear change in the force required and thus work nee...

Re: Tall Riders Coat Choices

I'm 6'1 with long arms and find a medium OMM kamelika (probably spelled that wrongly!) fits well for running and biking.

Sportful roadie tops also fit really well, not tried the actual rim jackets but the fiandre ones are ideal.

Re: "Can we make bikes sustainable again?" article

Not wholly convinced by that although as Stu says it's not that clear what they are trying to say. Plus 118g of CO2 emission for the whole life of a bike (i.e. the worst case on that list) is bugger all... Obviously if millions of people by an ally e-bike then don't use it; then that is a bad thing...

Lomo have a sale on this including a 13l seat pack for £21.60. Stuart reviewed them favourably and I bought one and been pleased with its waterproofing. Re: I seem to be stuck for a wheel

Don't forget to line the valve holes up before taping together (is that what you meant anyway Stu?) and I'd go round the rim and take a couple of turns of tension off first before swapping the spokes across. That way, you can do the rest of the loosening and initial tightening with a screwdriver so ...

Sounds an excellent route Greg, I'll hopefully give it a go soon. Short, fairly speedy and frighteningly flat runs today and yesterday as we're at centerparcs on Holland's North sea coast... 6km each but single figure elevation change ! Accidentally bought some fast road shoes in a sale in Rotterdam...
