Re: Dam Busters.

Well that was a bit of a weekend. Plan I had was to turn right after Llan up the 'back side' of Foel Fadian and then head south towards Rhayader ticking off Stuart's grid references. When I had issues pushing my bike up the road behind Fadian I thought I better have a rethink. Decended towards Stayl...

Re: What you done t' your bike today

Supernova rear light fitted to the Longitude today. Came with a seatpost clamp which would be fine and dandy if I was not using a seatpack. Hidden by the back guard if placed at the bottom of the post. Moved it to one of the seatstays and used an alternative shorter o'ring to fasten it on along with...

Route calculated so that a pub is within reasonable cycling distance from my proposed bivy spot or is that the other way round !

Breakfast booked at the Star at Dylife. Anyone else kipping in the car park on the Friday night ?

Re: Stats for the year (that was)

Glad to see a few more people apart from me using kilometres. Always seems right, as you go faster and further with them  Had a bit of a bad year in 2017, so 2018 I was mainly in recovery mode trying to get back near normal. 4223 km riding, 66858 metres of up is what I recorded on Strava, howe...

Re: Ethical and Environmental Options

Mrs G is doing a degree on environmental stuff and I think between us we've spawned a Derbyshire version of Greta Thunberg, so as you can imagine conversation in our household sometimes heads onto consumerism. Other point to bear in mind is if you go to a smaller 'cottage' industry where stuff is ma...

Re: Favourite bike of 'all time'?

'Montage.. cantis...biopace.. 18 thumbshifteds....' 'much better kit later..'. Nah! My 1985 Dawes Cougar was exactly the same kit (probably the only stuff available!) and I loved it and still do, but then I am a pervert  . My lad still has it, complete with original biopace and shifters - mo...

Interesting idea, but

Stumbled across this on the interweb https://bikepacking.com/news/cranktank4/ Interesting idea, and get it if you are going somewhere that's a tad less wet than the UK and has less cafe's / pubs / refill opportunities. But that's 4 kg of ballast on your bike when it's full. I normally 'survive' on c...

Re: Favourite bike of 'all time'?

The humble Raleigh Montage. First MTB or ATB as they were called in 1986. sub standard components - canti brakes that hardly stopped, biopace chainset and 18 thumb shifting gears. However went winter bikepacking in the Cairngorms on it which consisted of a MoFo rucksack full of climbing / camping ge...

Mudhugger 29er rear guard for a Longitude that I've been building up over the past few months. Just need to hope I've been a good lad and Santa brings me a Supernova rear light.

Re: What you doing next year?

Got a big year planned for 2020 as I had a couple of health related issues which set me back this year so I've got some catching up to do. On the definite list is the Winter Event, Dirty Reiver, WRT and YD300. Also got a plan to ride to the south coast as the wife's got family down there. Plus 'if' ...

Re: taiwan imports?

Import a lot of stuff from outside of the EU. You'll probably get hit for the VAT + customs processing charge based on the declaration on the outside of the box and the exchange rate that day. Parcelfarce seem to have sharpened up on this over the past year or so. Used to be 50/50 on whether they wo...
