Re: Gearing question...sorry

Er....what size biggest cog do you want to run? A lot of recent Shimano 10 and 11 road mechs are designed to work with a 34.

Plus there's the road link (et al.) if you want to go up to 40.

Re: Rear 'battery' powered lights with the longest run time?

I assume Smart Lights don't start to misbehave when they get wet any more? Not that fussed about weight but a Hope district is probably overkill. I want a comfortable 12 hours of light rather than 12 days! I do know what you mean about AA batteries, but battery lights appear to have died a de...

Re: Rear 'battery' powered lights with the longest run time?

Cheap, AAA batteries, 43 hours run time at 25 lumens.

Seems too good to be true.
The catch is they fall apart off road?
(Was thinking road use so that shouldn't be a problem.)

Rear 'battery' powered lights with the longest run time?

What 'battery'* rear lights have really long run times on constant whilst still kicking out a decent amount of light?

*as opposed to dynamo, so including usb charged which most lights are these days.

The most worrying aspect of this is not the fact the kipping in a field would now be a criminal act but that just being somewhere would could leave you open to prosecution. Especially as there are large areas that we think of as 'public' which aren't. Shopping centres and retail parks, University c...

WTD: Large light 'gravel' bike frame.

Thinking about trying to build a fairly light road/path/gravel bike. Anyone got a frame and forks suitable for someone 6"4 with short legs they want to offload.

Something that will take 28-42c (ish) on 700c disc wheels and is lighter than a MK1 Escape.

Hah! Guildford to Steyning on that is the 'downs link' i.e. NCN 223. Not sure that's 'gravel'. Fun to cruise along though.

Re: SJS derailleur bracket extension

That looks more like a knock off of the road link which is for an 11-40 cassette rather than the goat link which is for 'MTB' wide range cassettes.

I use a goat link and a HG500 11-42 and it seems to work well.

Re: Garmin Dakota bike mount recommendation

the Oregon mounting part is metal. Is it? I've never noticed that. Also never had an Oregon eject from the mount, one got a bit wobbly as the plastic mount wore so I think I just bulked it back up with tape. I can't get my head round the RAM mounts, which bit do you use to attach to the handlebars/...

Re: Cassette tool - ways to hold it?

I've been looking at these as well. The point of them obviously is to not carry a cassette tool and a bloody big spanner, but can they fetch a centrelock disc rotor off as well? If not does such a thing exist? An NBT definitely doesn't work on a centrelock disc as (I think from memory) it bottoms o...

Are trains running from Reading to Goring?

That's on the Ridgeway, then you could head North East for a bit and get a train back into London from Aylesbury or somewhere else in Buckinghamshire.

Cumulus 150 quilt with 22cm added arrived yesterday.

A good size for 6 foot 4 me. Weighs 418g. Has yards of spare shock cord and I only ordered it on 6th November.

Now I just need some warm weather.

The 4mm measurement is at the rim not the hanger - https://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-help/rear-derailleur-hanger-alignment#article-section-2 Yeah probably should have said that. You're supposed to do it on the same point of the rim to allow for the wheel being out of true. Width of rim doesn't m...

I believe Park say within 4mm.

10 speed is (in my experience) randomly more picky regarding a straight hanger than other speed derailleur systems.

From memory it's because the disc lockring is further in than the cassette one so the tool bottom outs on the axle before you can get to it.

Re: TLS and “spares” for multi day trip

Ah fond memories of trying to fix a spoke in a Swedish wood and realising that an NBT2 (the above cassette tool) doesn't fit into a centrelock lockring. I did manage to bend a spoke around the disc and get it sorted and it lasted another 2000+ miles (before the free hub failed) but 6 bolt is ...
