Re: Grinduro on now BBC Scot.

It was a fun event, a nice mix of against the clock racing, and just riding along. The scenery wasn't bad either (I may be biased) I even came away with a prize...second place in my age cat...although it was only out of two , and think I only just scraped that :) It looks like the over 60's don't do...

Still use the thermal buff and the micro fibre towel, The bumbag has seen some use as well, but I’m afraid the petrol lighter has sat in my box of bits unused...probably just as well with my track record with fire

Re: Isle of Arran September advise please

The midges were still around here until at least late September, but they were never really too bad. It was our first summer here and we expected the worst, but it never stopped us doing anything. In a campervan you should be fine.

Re: european bike express anyone?

We used it to come back from Narbonne after touring down from St Malo in 2012. I hate coach travel but it was remarkably comfortable. No hassle with the bikes, just turned the bars and they get stored in the trailer, it was all very stress free. Dropoff was like you a gentle 5 mile ride from home. I...

Re: Any bear-boners on Warmshowers?

Hi, Was looking earlier for warmshowers people on my Le Jog route, and came across Mark apparently in Arran (think might be a typo). Got me wondering, are there any other Boners on Warmshowers? Not a typo :) That's me. We are on it, but never had any interest back in Northamptonshire, but up here I...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2017.

12/12...but re reading the rules, it looks like my May one doesn’t count. There was a bike involved in that it was with me and that I was on the way to ride it, but it was in the back of the van at the time. Also I don’t think I posted every month...I blame moving house up to an internet challenged ...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2017.

Completed my BAM 2017 with my own Arran Winter Bivy. I decided to go a day early as the weather forecast for Sat/Sun was looking a bit grim. I headed for a beachside spot which I knew would be cold but hoped it would be worth it for the views. I managed to find a little bit of shelter from the north...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2017.

I think my "Bikepackingometer" © Reg is definitely into the "ride to bivvy" area at the moment. Went out after dark with good intentions to ride a fair way to camp, but after the first climb into the forest decided to stop and set up on an ok spot I'd used before. I knew the fore...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2017.

The first three months since moving up to Arran have been a bit of a whirlwind of move and exploring related activity. There's a healthy biking community, mountain and road, here, but not too much bikepacking interest that I've been able to find but maybe it's all a bit Fight Club like. Anyway at th...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2017.

April was covered by the WRT with the LHC splinter group, but since then house moving has made time an issue. 4/4 May was done (sort of) by pitching up alongside the van on a trip up to the Cairngorms for a few days riding, with couple of days of expert guiding provided by Scotroutes and other local...

Re: WRT packing opinions

I'm curious...if you're packing your tent/bivvy along with your sleeping bag/down jacket, what happens on the second day when the tent/bivvy are inevitably wet. Do you separate them into individual dry bags and if so doesn't that make them pack up less well?

I'd loved to have joined you on this, but I've been tasked with introducing my daughter to the delights of bikepacking in Wales, partly due to her pledging on Joining the Dots. So I'll have my own little group of three to guide to somewhere that needs to be "not too far, not too hilly, and not ...
