Likewise got some of those terravail tyres form Lyon (ordered yesterday morning, arrived today) 700x47 washburns. Despite being 'light and supple' they are in fact quite chunky and 700gs. However if this means no more effing, flaming punctures I'll be a happy man.

Re: Todays ride

I did a fine ride around the Trossachs (again), picking up a couple of new trails along the way. The first I'd picked up from the 'Ten Peaks Trail' that Bikepacking put out last year - a riverside path of varying standards from Doune to Callander that provided a nice alternative to the back road rou...

Re: Has bike packing (off the beaten track ) gone full circle?

I did one of my usual jaunts round the Trossachs yesterday and intercepted the Badger route at a few points - I passed 8 people doing it, but they all seemed suspiciously lightly loaded - could be super TLS I 'spose but probably doing it using digs, I suspect. Which is fine of course, but is it bike...

Just get off and push Shaff. You are still making progress but giving contact points and legs a rest. Moving slow is better than not moving at all!

Re: Cairngorm outer loop

Yeah, the Komoot route does a short off-road after Blair Atholl where you past an old bungalow, maybe into a hiking trail but just seems to go nowhere, gives nothing apart from wet feet and then brings you back onto the road again. Another one occurs before the Loch Insch area. Takes you off-road o...

Errrr - could head up to Carrbridge then do NCN7 north on the 'off road route' (dead end back road west out of Carrbridge) then down to Sluggan bridge which is a cracking spot.

Maybe I should've checked on here prior to leaving. I just assumed the the Komoot version was THE version. I'd be interested in that version for next time. phil - is your loop the same as that on the Cairngorms loop.net? In the route I cycled, an off-road section from Loch Morlich to An Lochan Uain...

I've got a gpx of the 'classic' outer loop tour, which goes from Glen Tromie through the Baden and Inshriach and takes in Loch an Eilean. Drop me a pm

Cheers all Great stuff Phil I rember years ago riding from friends place in Buckie to Spey Bay and then on to Boat of Garten but cant remember how is it possible to follow the river The Speyside way does just that, more or less, but the section between Tormore distillery and Cromdale is horrible in ...

Re: New Bike Gear Out And Due Out...

Depends which bikeshop you go to. Cycle2Work seem to be getting some bad press about fees at the mo. I'd rather do a cash deal! On reflection I can't justify the best part of £5k on a bike that will have limited use - the ICT does 80% of what it could do, in terms of whats available round here. But ...

Well, I'm definitely a bikepacker!
I've kipped under a tarp,
pushed through tussocks and bogs
drank out of a puddle
got lost
carry minimal stuff
done the BB300
wear frilly knickers under me baggies....

I'll get me coat.....

I want one. But almost certainly will not be available in the UK.... *sigh* Moonlander or the Beargrease? I like the look of the Beargrease but if I wanted a backcountry fat bike I'd go for the Moonlander. Maybe not the 6.2 tyres though. Then again the floatation would be something else  Moony...

I've already got 2 orange badges... if I had 3 it would start to look a bit greedy so I'd better not ride any more BB300s  For clarification, the process is easy to understand... the execution requires a bit more effort. As I think I said earlier on in the thread, the 2018 BB300 is the hardes...

Re: Moray meanderings

Is that lookout tower in Culbin Forest? How did Mike and myself not spot it :???: It's not easy - I stumbled across it a few years ago just by following a well made path from the main car park. It's marked on the orientation map at the car park but nowhere else. It's right next to the trig point in...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024

I managed to 'lose' my phone the other day - wandered into the Nethy Bridge shop, helped myself from the hot food counter, put my phone in it's case with my cash and card down next to the counter with my brain disengaged, wandered round the rest of the shop and went to pay, only to find...no phone. ...
