Re: Peaks200 groupstart: 28/29 June

That is the weekend before the Jennride, so not possible for me.
I struggle with weekends off as I am a humble shopkeeper. I would favour starting early on a Monday or Tuesday.
But don't let my awkwardness sway you.

Re: South lakes Wednesday

Rich, I met you at the end :-bd
Wednesday was rather damp, but it dried up for the night on Torver common.
Thursday was mostly dry, apart from when a fallen tree diverted me into a bog of doom descending Parkamoor.
A great couple of days, looking forward to Jennride 2019

I have this Wednesday and Thursday free so am heading to the lakes.
Will probably do one of the last two Jennride loops.
Anyone care to join me?

Re: I hope it is waterproof

Mine is the newer blue one. It looks ridiculous whichever way it is worn. I am now looking forward to a rainy day to see if it works better in its intended environment.

Re: I hope it is waterproof

No pit zips.
Although it was moderately warm (10c) I was not pushing it
Will have to see if it improves in actual wet and cold conditions.

I hope it is waterproof

Tried out my new Columbia Outdry featherweight on the morning commute. It was not raining, but I wanted to test the breathability. Wore a long sleeve top underneath which did seem to be getting moist during the ride. Upon arrival l removed the jacket an the words "otters pocket" seemed apt...

Re: GR5 next September

I do generally have to travel for quality wilderness. Peak district mostly, do the Jennride in the lakes every year. I am not doing WRT as it clashes with work.
I am happy to go north for a mooch about.

Re: GR5 next September

You would be most welcome.
The planning is going well ( in my head).
Perhaps we should do an overnighter to see if we are matched speedwise. # blinddate :)

Re: GR5 next September

Thanks Chris (did l call you Gary before?)
That video was one of the main reasons for choosing this trip. Although I fully expect it to rain for most of my week,. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best .

Re: GR5 next September

Thanks Gary, l have read that report before but have struggled to find it recently.
They seemed to move at a rapid pace. Much faster than I am planning. Staying at refuges/hotels probably kept their kit light.

Re: GR5 next September

Flights are booked, Luton to Geneva on Tuesday 10th , Nice to Luton on Wednesday 18th. Will take the train to Modane and start from there.
Solo at the moment, but would welcome some company. If you didn't get a place in the TNR this could be a rocky alternative

Re: GR5 next September

Probably around 6-8 thousand feet a day. Twenty ish miles.
Traveling time between 7 to 10 hours a day.
Just to be clear, I will be getting a train from Geneva to Modane.

Re: GR5 next September

Thinking of the first week of September, but quite flexible.
Seems the TGV to Modane does not take bikes, so flying to Geneva may be better.

GR5 next September

My rough plan is to travel by train to Modane, head to Nice over a week or so and then either fly back, or use chemin de fer.
Anyone fancy keeping me company?

Are you still planning to do this ride?
I have not started my BAM and a group ride would definitely help with motivation.
