Lots of opportunities to grip that can opener corner or the serrated blade end and lever the other end against something, what could go wrong? I guess that hypalon pouch can hold a few plasters.Ian wrote:Not really for left handed folk either...Richpips wrote:It looks so uncomfortable to use.

Re: SE (Chilterns) Winter Bivy - 10/11 Dec
Earlier plan posted up on previous page was Tring station at 12, head to cafe from there. Makes no odds to me as the ride from Berkhamsted is easily varied, but if anyone is arriving at 11.30 we'll need to hang on til 12 for others anyway?

Breakfast, not sure, bring something perhaps and I'll check the route when I'm back home. I like Pete's plan .. Lunch no prob, there's the cafe in Wendover town centre and one up in the woods also. Ashridge cafe is on the way back from Tring station.
Can't match Stuart's dinner up there though!

Looks spot on. Fair price for what it is too. Stu is right in a way but I'm glad some will still pay for UK made for any reason that makes sense to them.

Re: 29+ vs 27+ front
I looked into the proportional wheel size thing when 29ers came along as a mainstream option, came to the conclusion that it's illogical. Sorry Gairy : ) Liteville agree with you and make a good case for why they do it, same reasons that 69ers can feel fun. I just see wheel size as a major influence...

Re: Nice gear you don't use?
ZDB, a cannondale slate with the rigid fork in that case? Maybe a bit rigid, but anything designed around 650B road might work well. Pretty sure I've sen those tyres fitted to a croix de fer fork, if so they should fit many cx bikes.

Re: Nice gear you don't use?
With some drops, a set of Compass Rat Trap Pass tyres and the right frame set you could have an amazing 'TNR' bike..26" Enve carbon wheels that I saved for 'race day' and they are now never used and (relatively) worthless!

Re: Nice gear you don't use?
Quite the opposite here, tend to use kit w/o enough care at times. Got over sus forks after scraping another stanchion on another near new set, even at trade price cba with that level of cost vs ease of wrecking. Shredded a 7mesh jacket this summer, ah well. Gutted at the time but it's a likely resu...

I could suggest a place or 2 but I could also see cars getting broken into in any place, Berkhamsted and Tring are not high-crime areas though so use some common sense and all should be fine.
No excuses on Sunday then!everyone has ordered starters and main

Re: SE (Chilterns) Winter Bivy - 10/11 Dec
RE what tyres etc - I only have summer tyres on my 29er They'll probably be OK, I rode the 50 miles that I've logged between Tring, the bivi and back on totally smooth-centre semi slicks at the weekend. Slippy in places but it really isn't bad out there currently. When it rains it's sloppy but curre...

https://ridewithgps.com/routes/17855780 6km from Plough at Cadsden (just round corner from Red Lion, right by the end of a nice descent) to Little Kimble, via a climb and a -drunk-safe- descent, easy to see how you could cut the up-down out and just use the footpaths that cross the railway line. Re: SE (Chilterns) Winter Bivy - 10/11 Dec
I'll go past the red lion today on a route-planning ride to check if they're still open, maybe grab a menu if the site is down. If it's looking ropey we can re-book elsewhere. Think I have a nice enough ride planned that's quite adaptable. Does use some tarmac sections on quiet lanes for regrouping ...

There's a way to kimble area from whiteleaf that avoids the main road also. Or most of it anyway. Worth figuring out as the route would go there from Whitehead area anyway, red lion pub or not. Not a good road though agreed. Especially if you're the one with the coffee machine in tow : ) I'm happy w...

Re: 650b+ / 27.5 plus on a Genesis Fortitude?
Jack, I just looked this up as I remember a similar Q about the fork a while back, my answer was Just looked up the fork drawing .. the amount of stuff I have filed on this laptop. 80mm clearance at a point 45mm below the underside of the crown. Axle to underside of crown is 406mm. So from that you ...
