Charge spoon is my singlespeed saddle of choice. It encourages me out of the saddle. Hateful thing.

I wear a helmet almost always.
But if I forget to put it in the car or something I will ride without. I jist think of it as a good habit rather than a necessity

Nah I'd say its made no difference to me.
Bikes are bloody hopeless if there isn't some sort of path. Feet go overywhere.

How can I put this delicately...
I have found the use of dedicated beard trimmers to reduce tugging helps a hell of a lot.
Nothing drastic just the areas that are in contact with the saddle.
I drew the line at shaving n d think that may actually be worse.

I've come to grinding halt, fallen sideways and spewed where I lay on a climb before.

You're showing your age Ben.
that "carriage" is the guards van.
Some trainlines* its not possible to book but you can take a bike if you're lucky.
Having said that I've never had many problems scotrail have a policy to carry stranded cyclists so just stab your tyre ;-)

Re: travelling with bike, by train.
The simple answer is.
It depends on operator and route.
Some lines you just walk on.
Some require prebooking.
Some can be pre booked which is a good idea but not a requirement.

Whatever multitool that i can lay my hand on first. And a puncture repair kit and levers. The wee tub also contains a leatherman squirt -considering grinding the jaws for quick link duty. Each bike has a pump attached all of them with flexible tube connections. I always have a hunter swiss army knif...

No wait. Not a set of togs.
Apparently there was no one in. All 150 of us including front desk manned all day must have nipped to the toilet.

Re: Products which defy the "strong, light cheap" saying?
Another way to look at it.
If each disk weights 0grams its entirely logical to conclude the matt is infact in possession of zero mass.
Quick put the disks back you've taken some of the lightweightness out and made it heavier.

Re: Products which defy the "strong, light cheap" saying?
I think strong* is more relative actually. Ccf on any surface still functions in its primary job of insulation. Inflateable... comfy aslong as its not punctured at which point you also lose insulation. Never had an issue moving obvious uncomfortable bumps before laying down good practice for any mat...
