5/5 for me. South lakes Jenn ride, bivied on a very springy bit of forest floor up in Grizedale just before the route joined the TNF trail. 10 minutes into the ride the next morning spotted what I think was the main bearbones contingent on a luxurious piece of flat grass complete with picnic tables.

I had to wait 10 weeks for my underquilt to arrive, I was prommised on two occasions that it would be sent by the end of that week, but nothing turned up. I got on the phone to Mat, and eventually got it sorted. It seems like they were in the middle of a move, with some of the team working out of th...

4/4 Took out a friend on Saturday night who has never been bikepacking before, and doesn't really ride other than to the shops. I managed to fit him out with some of my old gear plus some borrowed lights and we headed off into the hills. We were cruising along nicely, but after a few miles he manage...

Re: Questions Re Hammocking and Saddle Packs
I've been using a neoair xtherm pad in my hammock as I already had one. I can place it diagonally across my hammock, and it stays in place throughout the night, the underside of the pad is rubberized and pretty grippy which certainly helps. (I don't think my Alpkit pad would be much fun, although I'...

3/3 Out into the surrey hills this time, a full moon meant we were able to ride without lights for some of the more open sections, sadly the rubbish camera on my phone meant I wasn't able to do it justice, so just pictures from the following morning https://irqkvg-dm2305.files.1drv.com/y3mCK28OleKN2...

The jacket is an old Gore Bikewear one, they don't make them anymore, but do something similar in a multicam print.

I'm also 65kg wet through, I had a crest on the front, and dinged it so bad it couldn't be repaired... It's the only rim I've ever done that to, I'd go for an arch

Re: Hammock curious
I had my first night in a hammock at the weekend, so by no means an expert, but I found I was able to stay on my neoair xtherm, not sure what the regular ones are like, but the xtherms are grippy little things. However....I couldn't re-position it once in and on, and I couldn't sleep on my side. So ...

Thanks for this weekend, a jolly pleasant bimble, good company and a nice little bivvy spot.
I owe you a return leg down my way.

1/1 for me, a little jaunt out with TheBrownDog and MTBNut. One or two spills on the ride to the pub left me with a torn jacket, a bruised shoulder and a snapped mech hanger, who would have thought Buckinghamshire would be so dangerous. Pizza and a beer, then back out into the frosty night, hoping t...

It will be my first time using my new hammock, so my endless faffing as I try to set it up should provide some entertainment for everyone

Re: Best SPD bikepacking shoes
I always used to wear Specialized Tahoe shoes, but they changed the design to something that looked a bit too much like a pair of Nike trainers for my liking. I'm now wearing Rimes which are great, but might switch back to Tahoes as they look to have gone back to the trail shoe type design - https:/...

I'd definitely be interested, sounds like the route could come right past my front door. If you need any help getting from the South Harting area up to Haslemere, punchbowl and beyond, give me a shout, it's a regular route.

Re: Gore Element Paclite jacket - any good?
My Alp-x Paclite is my main waterproof for biking, and I've worn it in some pretty horrible weather and it's been fine. In terms of waterproofness, I'd say it is on-par with my Rab Latok Alpine, which is 3-layer Event. The Rab feels like it might be a bit more durable.

Re: Gore Element Paclite jacket - any good?
I've got a Gore Alp X Packlight jacket, same material (I assume), but a more fitted cut. I'm really pleased with it, keeps the rain out, and pretty breathable.
I also have a Gore Element Windstopper gillet, the fit is slightly more boxy than the alp-x, but by no means flappy.

Re: Clips or flats?
Tread pattern makes a big difference for me, I usually ride with 5:10 freeriders, which have a flat ish, bike specific tread, but the other day I thought I'd give it a try riding in my 5:10 camp fours, which are hiking boots with lugged soles, and I found it a bit sketchy when the terrain got a bit ...

Re: Bearbones Jerseys & Gilet - order now!
I thought it might be useful to share a comparison with other brand sizing. I've got a medium, and it is pretty much half way between a small endura fs260 and a medium fs260. It's slightly tighter than a medium gore bike wear xc jersey, and a medium TLD xc jersey.

Re: Let's have a chat about knee pain.
My right hand hip and knee were both lower than the left hand side,. I think the left hand side was getting pretty much the correct amount of extension, and because the saddle was too low the right hand side was dropping down to allow the left hand side to extend to where it wanted to be, if that ma...

Re: Let's have a chat about knee pain.
I had similar pains in my right knee on the BB200, I went to see a physio, who identified that right hand buttock was woefully underpowered (not sure a physio should really be taking the mickey out of you whilst you're actually laying there), he gave me a programme of exercises to strengthen my glut...

Re: Cotic Solaris owners
I'm 5' 9" on a medium with a 50mm stem, really comfortable for long rides, and nippy through the singletrack. If it was my only bike I might be tempted to go for a small as I think that would have been a better size for "cocking about in the woods" duties. I spoke to the guys at Cotic...
