Well done that's great
Rough week for me with 3 days essentially house bound so far, probably today too the way my legs are feeling

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.
I've had that feeling of sub standard I thought the camp was here in the woods in the dark  My WP jacket reflectives hung over the end of the hammock have been useful catching in the torch light before, so good thinking with the trail of reflectives. I always waypoint my camp on the mapping app...

Re: Riding then walking
Yeh I have, as above in the Scottish hills. Usually just locked and hidden as best I could behind a bush or heather and then waymarked on my GPS. I've also done it when I was working. I often had to check on long linear paths that meant walking there and back or back along a road, so I'd drop the bi...

It'd be amusing if you woke up under that surrounded by pheasant looking for their breakfast

Re: Fat Fighters '23
Sorry, not got any advice other than if you can get him to see a counsellor/therapist and you can afford it it's money well spent. I didn't see anyone until in my 30s and had some traumatic times before then that I could have avoided if I'd had more self knowledge and an outlet to talk. Speaking fro...

Re: not really a trip or adventure, more a test
Cheers for the heads up Taylor, but I'm not looking to buy.
I have enough old and smaller tarps around to fanangle something for one end of the set up. Last time I was out it was windy and I actually just hung my WP jacket around that end of the hammock.

Re: Fat Fighters '23
Just came across this organisation Beat who do information and training to do with eating disorders and I thought it might be of interest to more than just me. I'm thinking of going on their virtual session on Tuesday afternoon on exercise and eating if I can find out a bit more detail as it's £55 f...

Re: not really a trip or adventure, more a test
That's great :-bd I've seen the tarps that can close on each end like that but always baulked at the cost. Even flat tarps get silly prices (in my opinion) I'm using 3x3 DD tape with my hammock but have to use it diagonally as the hammock is 12ft so even with hammock sag using it square would only j...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.
So, March BAM is done. Rode around 18km to a bird hide on the Montrose basin yesterday, a slightly more secluded one than my initial penthouse suite plan as with so many properties in the area I didn't want to raise alarm or suspicion with any lights on and off during the night. The farmers get a bi...

Re: Anyone take binoculars on their trips?
Successful bird watching tends to require sitting and waiting, rather than trying to get the binoculars out after seeing something. What about sitting and watching with the stove on and maybe a brewed coffee at hand... I usually end up pulling iut the phone just after spotting em and then they're g...

Re: Anyone take binoculars on their trips?
The problem with monoculars is the same as with 'scopes in that the field of view is pretty narrow so you can sometimes have trouble keying in on your 'target'. It's somewhat amplified with monoculars as by their nature they have a small objective lens (like the 25mm one mentioned above), spotting s...

Re: Anyone take binoculars on their trips?
10x seem to be the new favourite with birders rather than the historical 8x. I guess it depends on your needs, what you want to carry, and budget. I'd definitely avoid any bins with a 'zoom'.

Re: Anyone take binoculars on their trips?
Our bigger ones (8x42mm) are Hawke and are perfectly good enough quality for our bird and general wildlife watching use. :-bd I've friends who are full on birders, twitchers even, with the newest Swarovski bins which I've tried and are fantastic, especially in low light and poor contrast, but at mor...

Re: Anyone take binoculars on their trips?
Funny you mention bins as I was just thinking I should take mine on the planned BAM tonight to a bird hide on Montrose basin. Stupidly, the small ones have just gone to the garage in the car  I'll just have to make space the beefier pair. None of ours are fancy , bigger pair are 42mm x 8, smal...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.
Nope. Not that cold here, only around -3c last night, likely to hit 2c max here today. It's been pretty cold and nippy northerly lately but blue skies, today the wind has dropped too, lovely out. Off out for a careful spin in a bit to check a couple of bird hides for my next BAM. Don't want to arriv...
