Re: Garmin Etrex 20/30 Owners, Help!
AFAIK the Garmin PLugin only works for uploading .FIT files. I only found this out after enabling the option to save tracks as both .FIT and .GPX on my Oregon whereupon it started working

Aye - another Lamina fan here. I have a 35 and a 0.
Make sure you try one out for size though Tony. You might want to shop around to see who has one in a Long length.

I had a Dakota and it works just fine. I do prefer the larger screen of the Oregon though.
I also prefer the touch-screen interface to the buttons on the Etrex.

I'm looking forward to doing the loop in the spring but will likely start and finish at Rothiemurchus rather than Blair Atholl as I live in Aviemore.

Re: 29er wheel and tyre choice
I just use Ardent 2.25s on Arch EX rims. That's a nice, high volume combination which takes much of the sting off rougher terrain. I fitted a Crossmark on the rear just before the snow arrived so haven't had a chance to try that yet.

Bah, too slow! Look on the bright side, we each posted the same link so we're either equally brilliant in our deduction of which was the right one to go for, or we're both going to be as lost as each other when it comes to the race... :lol Left! Re: Off road bikes are confusing
The easy availability of "bikepacking" luggage has made bike choice a lot easier as there is now no need to consider rack mounts. I reckon (and the poll so far backs this up) that a suspension-corrected 29er hardtail is going to be the best all-rounder. Choose suspension or rigid forks as ...

Internal cable routing? - Not for me. Too much faff if having to change cables. Single chain ring up front? - Not for me. I want more gears. Straight tubed large triangle? - Not essential and often not possible if accommodating fork adjusters. I guess that just proves that there isn't one "perf...

TBH I'm skeptical about the whole quilt concept but the idea that this is being designed by someone more knowledgeable about them has me interested. Put me down as half a vote and convince a long-term sleeping bag user that this is the future :)

Re: What weight is a fat bike?
Has anyone seen/is using, an exotic carbon fork on their fat bike? That would likely drop a chunk of weight and i think they look better than the on one carbon fork as well  I have the White Bros Snowpack fork on my 9:ZERO:7. Given previous experience, I'd bet it's exactly that same as the E...

Re: What weight is a fat bike?
It's pretty obvious really but there's a lot of weight in tyres and tubes and you can easily knock 3-4lbs off by making the right choices.

My 9:ZERO:7 comes in at almost exactly 30lbs. Alloy frame, carbon fork, drilled 82mm rims, 4" tyres and 2x9 gearing.
