I'm sure you're not being entirely serious, but I'd rather not ride some boring extra miles just to get to a round number. Worse still, they could have tacked on 30 extra miles and called it the Tiso 1000 (km).
Is it wrong that I thought that would actually have been a good idea?

Re: Tiso Overland 500

Yeah, there's only a few bits I don't know, mostly Aberdeenish, but it might make for a decent tour - maybe using paid accommodation for a change as it goes through so many towns and cities. Could be one for late Autumn depending on river levels through the Gaick. Some care in timing will be require...

Oh, and the encouraged litter picking I suppose.

I took delivery of a new (to me) bivvy bag from richpips. I've now got to decide whether I've time to try it this week or do I take the big risk and wait until I'm over in Uist?

Re: Todays ride

I completed my assigned Scotways route surveys today on a new-to-me track between Inver and Loch Builg. I’ve ridden enough of these to expect the worst so I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was all rideable. A white-tailed eagle passed at eye level, about 20 metres away. Fairly made my day....

Re: Garmin Solar

Yeah, I saw this and added it to the "want" list but at over £600, that's where it'll stay.

The charging on my Fenix 6 Pro Solar works really well so there's no reason to believe the Edge 1040 won't. I guess it'll be better in Dallas, Texas than in Dallas, Morayshire.

Steve Well done on getting round anyway - regardless of how much "fun" you had at the time. You're right that the track is still evolving. Erosion (both natural and human) is having an impact. Over time, I expect that some of the current obstacles will become easier but then others will al...

I have a couple of DCF tarps. They definitely don't pack as small as Silnylon. Marc provided a wee bag for each and I always carry them in that, avoiding any abrasion issues..

I know it's probably / possibly / maybe a convenient "shorthand" but I've never considered *this* [waves hands around vaguely to signify bikepacking] to be a "sport". An activity that contains plenty of exercise sure, but I don't particularly do it for that (or maybe it's a happ...

I only dotwatch the HT550 and that's because I know the trails so can put the rider in the landscape and picture what they're riding through. Plus, of course, there are usually a few riders I know or know of.

Have you noticed when you are wrecked and there is a headwind, everything ends up being uphill?
I rode to Loch Builg today and had the infamous headwind. Only difference was I was coming from the South for a change
