Just sorting the cables out and can't decide whether I should: A / Break the gear cables out of the tape along the bottom edge of the bar before the drop ... kind of old school. B/ Keep them under the bar tape all the way round the drops. My thoughts are that option A might produce a better shifter ...

Looking at inbred 29er slot dropout to run single speed and geared sometimes or is it a big nightmare Works well enough. The last few versions have tapered washers that run against tapered slots on the inside of the drop-out, so in theory you don't require a chaintug ... sometimes they grip but not...
